High Temperatures - Dont really know what to do?

I will look into it! :) thank you for your time

Ok, now that I have some time, lets step way back here... The 9600k doesn't come with a stock cooler. So, what I meant to ask was: who built this, and what was the cooler chosen. It sounds like a friend of a friend built the PC, so parts list is not 100% clear? Can you either figure out what cooler it has or take a picture for us?

Again, the 9600k is not that hard of a chip to cool in the scheme of CPU's. The fact the other guy said his was idling at 80c on "stock cooling" is just downright now true. You can put a hunk of metal on a CPU with basically no fins, and at idle it will not run 80c. The volts at idle are so low and the amps its drawing for idle frequencies, it won't even burn itself up without a heatsink on it... ask me how I know, it wasn't one of my finest times. I was putting a PC together to sell on craigslist with random parts I had, accidentally turned it on with no heatsink at all, it sat on the "no boot device found" screen for a solid hour, and all was fine. I was shocked it didn't thermal shutdown, but it must have driven the clock speed WAY down, down to about what idle is in windows.......

So the fact its running high 90's in game load is concerning. No cooler should result in those temps, especially at ~1.23v. Before you go spending money, lets try and figure out what is actually going on so we can better solve the issue. Throwing money at the problem isn't always required. A picture, or figuring out what cooler you have would be extremely helpful. Its possible it has a bad mount, especially since your idle temps are in the high 40's...

For reference, here is a graph of the power draw of a 8600k vs a 9700k and 9900k at stock speeds in a render test. The 8600 (which is VERY similar to a 9600k), is not all that much wattage at all. Thus, its not that hard to cool. Lets figure out if there is an issue before we jump to the conclusion you need to spend money...
