Honestly, in 10 years i never update my win 7, i sleepstreamed updates with ntlite when i had to format pc. 

 

win 10 is death for me, i will go to linux when chrome stops support for win 7 and the websiten stop to support it.

Once they switch over, this will break LoL under wine instances and virtualized instances. Being kernel level, there will be no way to work around it. It's something Riot would have to address, which probably wont happen.

That kernel thing would happen in 2021, which is why LoL should work till 2021 according to the Lutris page. The Lutris page is discouraging new players from starting the game. If someone is not a LoL gamer, Dota 2 is recommended new Linux players. Meanwhile, proton, wine, and DXVK will keep on improving due to which an even greater catalogue of games would be available.

If you play league, you know they update the game at least once or twice a month, and that you couldn't connect to their servers because of a version mismatch. Also, it's worthy of note, that Vanguard (which is what I'm assuming their kernel level anti-cheat is for league as it's valorants) utilizes the Windows kernel, so i'm not sure if this spells death for MacOS League players as well. If your diehard on league, which I get it, it's a powerful drug, Windows is your clear choice, through and through.

Sure! You like MacOS, right? Keep what you like and bootcamp your machine, provided that you have the storage to do it comfortably. I run Ubuntu 20.04 and Windows side by side, so I can play games with Easy Anti Cheat (I hate you, Tim Sweeney) while still being able to reboot into my linux and enjoy everything else there. When it comes to operating systems, if you're okay with rebooting everything now and again, you can have your cake and eat it too!

I actually will not be keeping my MacBook Air. I plan to buy a new PC (see signauture.) so no macOS (unless I Hackintosh it) and Bootcamp to Windows. I am fine with rebooting every single day. It is what I do every single day on my MacBook Air to keep it from being too slugish for me.

If Final Cut Pro is a must, I'd look into making sure your machine has compatible parts for a Hackintosh (not any part will do), but if you're okay with changing your workflow, then Ubuntu 20.04/Windows is a good mix. If you're not rocking ethernet, I'd recommend getting a wifi dongle that's purpose made with both linux and windows alike, as wifi dongles on linux are a PAIN (unless you're rocking Manjaro)

I actually have Ubuntu on my machine (to speed it up.) and I would rather have the looks of Pop!_OS (What weird spelling) and yeah Windows 10 dual boot was my origonal plan

Awesome! I've tried POP, it's quite nice. It has both a Intel/AMD and NVIDIA option, to make sure you get the right one before installing.

Also, gnome-look.org is good for adding themes. Just browse through them and see which one you like. They also have GDM themes for your login screen, Icon themes, GRUB themes, various GTK themes, etc. I would suggest the OP has a look. https://extensions.gnome.org/

is good for extensions. You can also add a Mac OS style dock. You can make GNOME look and feel like Mac too. With Linux, your imagination is the limit. Also, install Gnome Tweak Tool. Gnome altough not as customizable as XFCE is a lot easier to get started with and a lot more stable, in my experience.

 

I would suggest dual booting with Windows if you are not concerned of being a part of the Apple ecosystem. That way you can enjoy the stability, robustness, customization, and modernness of Linux and some of the high quality apps, LoL, bloatware, and telemetry of Windows. This is just a suggestion ;  you do you!

macOS:

Pros: I am already in their ecosystem, free (I own a Mac)

Cons: Not so sure how smoothly it runs on a PC

 

Windows

Pros: Tons of apps

Cons: Not familiar with it, tons of malware, costs money, doesn't have FCPX

 

Linux:

first off linux does have a lot of support and its only growing and also you can always run a gaming vm on linux although considering you bought a mac :/ you probably cant do it anyways it would overheat or just be to under powered linux ideally is the perfect os for anyone you customize it to be yours. i was on and off linux until about a week or two ago i took a chance and installed arch on my windows hdd and ive found my place with mobile games therefore not playing as many pc games now i have a amazing looking and feeling os on my pc now i agree everyone has their own opinion but thats the point of customization on linux everyone can do what they like and as linux gets more software support day by day its becoming one of the bets OS out there and i truly think youll find your niche and hopefully switch anyways best regards. ,Monte
