Is there even a good OS in this universe?

I would like to know just WHY all the OS's are bad:

macOS:

Pros: I am already in their ecosystem, free (I own a Mac)

Cons: Not so sure how smoothly it runs on a PC

Windows

Pros: Tons of apps

Cons: Not familiar with it, tons of malware, costs money, doesn't have FCPX

Linux:

Pros: Free, secure, private, customizable

Cons: Not enough apps I need. Barely any Steam apps for Linux.

Any suggestions? I just want a good OS for once...

Everything in life is the “best case compromise”.

Which one has the most things you like/need and has the least tolerable faults or lack of features you can get without somehow or work around.

I imagine that would be macOS, which has only one con (does it really matter if you are playing LoL or something? How many framerates would I lose?)

Well technically you aren't supposed to be able to run it on a PC at all. Apple wants their money so they don't officially let you use macOS on anything other than an apple device

If you buy a prebuilt PC, windows doesn't cost anything at all. The only reason it costs money is if you're paying to put the OS on your own build. I'm sure if apple let people put macOS on their own builds it would cost even more than Windows does. As far as malware goes, I don't get why people always complain about that. I've never had malware issues using Windows. Windows defender is all I need to keep my PC protected. As long as you use common sense, you shouldn't have to worry about viruses at all.

In the end, the OS you use depends on what you need it for. MacOS is better if you like a smooth experience for everyday commercial or personal use. Windows is much better if you're into things like gaming and customization. Linux is good if you want a simple OS that will run well on anything, with a few compromises that can be overcome if you are willing to download wine so you can run Windows apps on it.

I mostly speak from my own past experience from similar problems. My solution may not work for you, but I'll always try my best to help as much as I can. If you want me to see your reply, make sure to quote my comment or mention me @WaggishOhio383, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

The Eight Fallacies of Distributed Computing

Essentially everyone, when they first build a distributed application, makes the following eight assumptions. All prove to be false in the long run and all cause big trouble and painful learning experiences.

  1. The network is reliable
  2. Latency is zero
  3. Bandwidth is infinite
  4. The network is secure
  5. Topology doesn’t change
  6. There is one administrator
  7. Transport cost is zero
  8. The network is homogeneous

It depends on the level of customization you want. If you just want to change your background, you can still do that without activating Windows. While it won't let you do it in settings, you can still right click on a photo in file explorer and select "set as desktop background."

And what you're touching on is the one issue with making a custom PC. While you in theory save money building it yourself, the price pretty much evens out when you factor in the cost of activating Windows, which is included in the cost of a prebuilt PC.

Yea, I used to do that quite a lot, but it just became too bloated for me and caused my dvd player to go crazy and causes freezes. So, I run linux now and it works fine.
