Best wifi card for my pc

tank234

I was looking to buy a new wifi card to replace my old tp link usb wifi card. I have a budget of around $150 CAD because I need the best wifi range that I can get and I can't go wired as my router is in the basement and I am on the first floor. I don't mind what kind as long as it can get me a good signal and not give me any issues and can connect to 5g network. Also no signal drops and random disconnecting issues. I also don't mind if it is pci-e or usb

If you have a wifi 6 router, then this

https://www.amazon.com/OKN-2974Mbps-Bluetooth-802-11AX-Wireless/dp/B07X462KRK

or any other AX200 wifi card. they'll all perform basically the same.

However, if you have a very high end 4x4 non wifi 6 router, than this is probably the fastest.

note that unless you have a 4x4 router, then you will not be able to utilize the full potention of it.

Moving the wireless router at least 1 level up will help a lot and you might not need to get a new WiFi card.

Even if you get a new WiFi card, you may not see any significant improvements. Yes, the newer AX cards improve WiFi performance but that only works if your wireless access point also supports it. You still have the same walls and floors between your computer and the router all the way in the basement.

So I should be fine with a my regular 2.4 usb adapter?

You'll have to test it after moving the wireless router up 1 level.

What make/model of wireless router are you using? Does it have a 5GHz radio?

That router supports wireless-AC (5GHz) so a dual band adapter might improve your speed. However, note what I said before. You still should try to optimize vertical proximity. WiFi seems to work better in a horizontal proximity than in the vertical.
