Is the RTX 2070 Super worth the extra $100 vs the RTX 2070?

I'm currently building a new pc for a friend and was wondering whether a 2070 Super has the performance to be worth another $100 compared to the non-super 2070. Thanks!

Worth is a very relative term. In my opinion, none of the RTX cards are worth what they cost.  They charge a huge amount for a feature that's basically pointles.

I would say no, and TBH now that Navi issues are fixed I have a hard time recommending a 2070S at all, the RX 5700XT is just a way better buy for a gaming PC.

What about streaming? My friend wants to stream and I know that the nvidia cards are great for that, I have a 1050 ti and plan on upgrading very soon as well.

2070 super is a gimped 2080, but the advice you need when buying a GPU is 'just get the most expensive card you can afford'

Well streaming is largely CPU heavy, OBS for example will use some GPU compute power (Nvidia NVenc or AMD VCE), but is largely dependent on the CPU as it will utilize cores while gaming. What CPU is he going with?

this is a question I can not answer as I am going from an old AMD GPU to a RTX 2070 super.

 

the best advice I can give you is to watch the video linked below as it will show the best GPUs ate different price ranges.

Well an R5 2600/x with a 2070S won't be better for streaming than an R7 3700x with an RX 5700XT / 5700. You can make a an R5 3600 work for streaming. But for the build you are utilization the budget in an unfavorable way.

If he’s gonna stream go with a 3700x cpu and a rx5700xt gpu. The rx5700xt at $400 is a great gpu

I'm currently building a new pc for a friend and was wondering whether a 2070 Super has the performance to be worth another $100 compared to the non-super 2070. Thanks!

Well the main reason I wanted to use a nvidia gpu for his build was because of it's NVENC which I absolutely adore, unless AMD Gpus have those too, I have VERY little experience around amd gpus.

That's why I added "...can afford" to the end of my advice. I'm not telling anyone to buy a card they can't afford, that's when you run into problems.

 

At this time more expensive does mean better, the 2060 < 5700 < 2060 super < 5700xt < 2070 super

 

If op can afford a more expensive card, then op will benefit from said card. I won't tell op to go buy a titan rtx just because the most expensive and fastest card, but if op can afford it, then it's ops choice to make.

 AMD uses VCE (NVenc equivalent), I already said that. But it's up to you and our friend, just don't expect better streaming performance just because of the 2070S, like I said your results will be better with a more powerful CPU.

This is the build I was looking at for him, nothing is quite official especially because of the fluctuating pc prices rn, and the psu is yet to be determined.
