Overclocking?

So i'm thinking of overclocking my GPU.

 

Reason beeing i recently started playing CoD MW (the new one) and im struggeling to get 144+ fps on low/med settings.

 

My system

Intel Core i7-4790k 4.00GHz

MSI Gaming 5 z97

16 GB (8GB x 2) DDR3 Corsair vengeance 1600MHz

MSI Gaming X GTX 1060 6GB

HyperX Savage SSD 240GB 

Corsair CX750M 80 plus bronze  750 Watt PSU

 

So im wondering if overclocking will help me reach higher fps.

What is your usage per core on your CPU during gameplay.  What is your usage on your GPU during gameplay?  If your usage is low on the CPU but 99-100% on the GPU at all times, yes an OC can achieve more frames.  If your CPU is pegged in the 80-90% range of usage than unlikely that you will get much result from a GPU overclock.

So from just booting up the game i can see my cpu cores are all running on around 50-60% and my gpu is on 98 %

It looks like your GPU is holding you back more than you CPU.

 

I don't think OCing you CPU will change much when gaming, if anything, but you can certainly try

Open task manager and right click the CPU graph to show all logical cores.  Any single core hitting high usage?  The main single graph shows usage but doesn't give the full story.

 

Based on what Im reading so far a GPU overclock will net some more frames.

Doubt an overclock is gonna help. Given how the card runs compared to any of the cards above it. 

I just max out the power and voltage and go from there. That’s enough to let the card sit at 2000hz

Seeing the individual cores Im going to have to say that a GPU overclock will only give mild results at best if any.  The CPU (in menu) is being hammered.  What does the graph look like if you play for 5 minutes then alt tab out and take a screenshot?

Hi sorry about the late response i had some thing i needed to be done before bed.

but this is my cpu usages while playing

70% constant usage with spikes in the high 80%'s into 90% suggest a pairing that is nearly maxed out.  GPU overclock may yield a couple more frames

Well tehn i guess ill have to live with it then untill i can buy a new computer. But thanks for the help anyways
