2 GTX 980s with SLI Equivalent

Hello,

I have been using a gaming setup with two GTX 980s with SLI and I was wondering if I should use my friend's old graphics card.

I don't have it on hand, but my friend assured me that is was very powerful.

If someone could spare a minute and find out what the equivalent is, that would be much helpful. (Can't find anything online)

SLI is widely not supported, and your GTX 980 SLI would be equivalent to me running my R9 Fury's in SLI (actually they scale closer to 2x 980ti's).  Basically if he has a GTX 1070 or better card (that's 30% better than a GTX 980) you will get significant boost, if you are GPU limited.

I think SLI isn't supported or doesnt scale well. In most cases, single powerful gpu will perform better. A single 980 will be about an equivalent of a 1060. So i think a single 1070, 1070ti or a 1080. Or even a rtx 2060. Will be better.

Im with the mentaility of "IF IM NOT SURE IF ITS ENOUGH COOLING, GO OVERKILL"

Better be a 1080ti to be equivalent. 
Based off the crap games everyone else plays to not scale id just hope for a 1080.
