USB Stick capped at 355KB/s

Zumbuh

I don't really know when it happened but out of nowhere my USB stick capped itself at 355kb/s transfer speed. It used to be a fairly normal USB stick. Anybody else have this problem before?

Haven't heard of it. It's possible to ID the drive and perhaps repair it.

How old is the stick and what size/brand? Have you tried to reformat it?

Quick format should not take 30 minutes, if it does then something is for sure wrong with the drive. It's probably just failed internally in some kind of way, uncommon but possible. Maybe hit up PNY to see if there's warranty?

Sounds like the controller or the flash chips might be dying on you.

Quick format should take ~2 minutes at worst. Should actually take more like 15-30 seconds, or less.

You should check the warranty on it, and see if it's still covered. If so, go ahead and RMA the drive for a replacement.

If it's out of warranty, you could try a full format, and see if maybe it just needs to remap some bad sectors or something. If that doesn't work, you basically just need to toss it out and buy a new USB Drive.
