How do you use conformal coating when applying liquid metal?

My last couple of LM efforts didn't involve conformal coating but I feel like if I want to do it to my laptops, I'll probably want to apply it.

So what's the procedure for using conformal coating when applying LM?

This is probably something best researched through pictures or video.  So you may find more useful answers on YouTube.  Then you can see the parts you want to cover to avoid shorting in the event the LM gets on it.

Depends on the part in general. Did a layer around the die on my old cpu.

Recently doing my 8700k, I didn’t do anything. Wasn’t anything on the board to be concerned about.

That's why I was thinking about it. I did a 7700K and my dad's 8600T and neither of those had any surface mount components on the substrate so I wasn't really risking anything by not applying it (I just used some electrical tape to mask off the die from the substrate while I was layering it on). But there's a lot of crap around laptop CPUs that it could spill over to and now that I'm interested in trying it I'd like to know what others are doing.

You shouldn't need it with a proper liquid metal application but if you want to use a coating just paint it onto whatever parts you feel need to be covered.

EVGA K|NGP|N 3090
