Did my GPU overclock cause this?

I built my new PC a couple of days ago and temps were all good so I decided to OC my GPU(currently using my old one, GTX 970) and eventually I found what seemed to be a stable frequency without changing voltage at all. I kept it and stress tested it with several games including GTA V, Assassins creed origins, Witcher 3, Overwatch and Rise Of The Tomb Raider over a few hours(all games were putting my GPU at 100% usage). Temps were not going over 75C and everything ran without a hitch. However, when I turned my PC off and a little while later back on again it didn't recognize my GPU. The light on my GPU was on, fans were spinning and afterburner was showing a temperature but nowhere did I see my GPU being recognized. I decided to try Overwatch but got 2fps in the menus. I restarted my computer a few times and now it seems to be working again.

Also worth noting, I'm using my old hard drive and I didn't have to reformat it or reinstall windows, it just worked with the new PC right away.

For now of course I'm going back to stock speeds, if I don't have any issues then I'll know what caused it.

It's possible your graphics card crashed, in which case the driver could of went into a fallback mode, which is basically only good enough to use the desktop. IF that's the case, you caused no harm to your GPU, and your overclock was probably unstable in some way.

It happened again multiple times, but I stopped afterburner from coming up on windows startup and I think that fixed the issue(The overclock was off in afterburner) but I'm still having another issue(had this issue before I overclocked) where my computer doesn't come out of sleep. I tried a few things people said to do on reddit, but none of them worked. For now I turned sleep mode off, and I don't think I'm going to overclock again until I know everything is running flawlessly lol.
