GTX 1060 94MB hardware reserved?

Mark Kaine

I know this seems minor but it's slightly bugging me, especially because I could need every MB I could get for the game I'm playing (MHW + high res texture pack) as it's pretty much at the 6GB limit most of the time.

I used to have a 2200G and that's normal you would have some memory reserved for the iGPU,  but I since then switched to a R 3600, updated the BIOS and thus I don't understand why windows still tells me 94 MB hardware reserved.

And since my BIOS was updated I can't even find the settings for integrated graphics anymore... I don't think it has them to be honest, but not sure.

Specs:

R 3600

2x8GB Corsair LPX 3200

MSI B350M Mortar

GTX 1060 6GB

500w bequiet psu

Could this be the allocated Virtual Memory for the ram ?

did u manual disable igpu, coz the motherboard has the io for a igpu, maybe it is automaticly set to enabled and shares ram

I did not know Medal of Honor Warfigher needed that much VRAM, somehow I did not notice there was a high res texture pack for it.

Can you take a screenshot where it shows you the reserved 94MB?

That's what I'm thinking it maybe is, but why is it on the 1060... and how do I free it up?

That's possible but also kinda makes no sense since I updated the BIOS and I cannot find a shared RAM / iGPU setting anywhere... I might be just blind but I think it just isn't there... weirdly.

Is there any side by side comparison on 4k vs normal texture that is not from video?

I never heard of this game...

I'm playing Monster Hunter World!

Yes, I'm not on my PC right now but here it is - it's also 92MB, not 94MB, the issue remains the same though.

The reserved memory you can act on is the one in the main RAM tab, that's what can be used by an iGPU.

The dedicated RAM of a graphics card there is nothing you can do about. That amount is what the GPU needs for its internal workings and that is thus not available to applications.

Oh is that so?  Ok I see,  and yeah I figured it's not shared memory,  because it doesn't say that,  it says hardware reserved .

Bummer - I'm actually not quite sure it was always like that - since on my old system I had the iGPU turned off because I was obviously using the 1060, it's just weird those 92MB are the same amount I had set for shared memory for the iGPU because you need to set a minimum amount even if you don't use the integrated graphics at all iirc.

Edit: @Kilrah  oh actually I'm having this issue in my RAM tab too, it says 49MB reserved,  so is there a way to free that up at least?  Or should I just not bother,  49MB really doesn't seem much considering I have 16GB lol...

mobo manual is easiest way to find where the setting is, its usually searching in the bios for a while :F

also monsterhunter world with high res pack easily eats 7.6gb+  so i dont think u have enough vram for this ,  even with volumetric rendering disabled it eats 7.8 alr for me

My mobo manual is 100% incorrect for the BIOS I have installed unfortunately - it completely changed,  it's a beta BIOS (the only one available that's compatible with Ryzen 3000) and it changed from click BIOS 5 to click BIOS light, and I sadly couldn't even find a manual for that anywhere online...

They say no features where removed,  but looking at this thing I kinda doubt it - well I couldn't find them anyway.

You cannot remove hardware reserved memory. It is essential for everything to works.

It's not related to iGPU.
