What does this button do in LibreOffice do?

Does anyone know what this little button does? When I press it it changes into different shapes but doesn't seem to do anything. Is it just a fidget tool to use when you get bored of writing essays? Thanks.

It's same on MS Word

You could set page margins and pther marks for text align with that if you want. But easier way is to just create whole style.
