Help: Card Dying?

Echo4890

I got an RTX 2080 Ti FE a few months ago, and the other day I had some anti-aliasing issues that I tried to fix in Nvidia Control Panel. After tweaking, I couldn't remember what they were before, so I restored to defaults.

The next day, I was playing Hitman 2 and got a weird graphical glitch where part of the sunlight hit a desk in a cutscene was causing some weird yellow, light blue, red, and black squares all jumbled up together (not covering the screen)
(I wasn't able to reproduce)

I also played Rising Storm 2 and some of the textures / surfaces have started flashing white for a split second at certain times; The screen will even totally flash white at some points.
(Too fast to get a screenshot)

I got some screenshots of the stock settings. I would try rolling back Nvidia settings but I have no clue on how to do that.

More than likely some windows 10/driver issue. Otherwise it may just be the memory on the card, could try maxing out the power limit, or cutting it in half to see what happens.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Are the graphical glitches resembling artefacts? Do you have an oc running? Check temps etc.

most likely drivers reinstall/update those.

I'm going to try a system restore point for a few days ago and see if that works.

From what I've seen nothing looking like artifacts and temperatures are running average of what a 2080ti should be running at.

if it's just flashing it's likely a software issue, whether it's windows updates or drivers with ur particular card, as long as it's not actual artifacts on the screen i'd bet it's not dying.

Half the nvidia drivers for me flashes sometimes and in my case it has to do with gsync and 2 monitors with different refresh rates, so i keep an older driver that doesn't flash just in case.

I had the same setup with a 1080 ti and everything is perfectly fine (hdr off), so the problems could be exclusive to rtx cards.

I'm thinking it was the latest Game Ready driver update and messing up some settings in Nvidia Control Panel. I had an issue with restoring it today (over an hour and a half and stuck on "restoring registry") so I will try tomorrow in safe mode.

Unfortunately I am getting a blank screen and a shutdown when I after using startup settings (restarts, blank screen after bootup, shutdown). Not sure what's going on but will keep trying.
