Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

So I am running a skylake system, just want know if i would need a psu upgrade or am i fine with a 620 watt? I would like to upgrade from a gtx 1070 to a rtx 2070 but, if my psu can handle a 2080 than ill just go with that.

If i need a psu ugrade, then which should i get?

Any feedback is appreciated!

Which 620w PSU? Off the top of my hand I can't think of any 620w PSUs that I would use with an RTX2080, and there aren't that many 620w PSUs out there.

For an unlocked i7 and RTX2080 I'd go with a good quality 550w unit.

I wouldn't use a group regulated psu on a 2080. The seasonic is not a bomb but a 2080 is an expensive investment. Get a power supply that will treat it right. The wattage is not the problem

For a 2080? Anything from tier A or higher.

Wattage isn't the concern. Seasonic M12ii 620w is quite old, poor design. Should be replaced if you're planning on using a RTX2080.

Maybe wait a few weeks to see what these Nvidia Super rumoured cards are like and what their prices are before spending money on a 2080.
What monitor are you using? Resolution/refresh rate?

the pre-2018/2019 models would shut down on some cards because of high peak wattages, so they upped the ocp/opp protection

the current models start with heavy ripple around 120-130%

I didn't know that. Why are they still tier A?

because they still perform okay enough for that, and again, if it doesn't have those problems, it is a pretty good psu

that's why i hope the v2 is better

If you want something relatively cheap and good buy a EVGA 750 G3. Also the warranty and RMA service time is superior.
