I3 9100f vs Ryzen 5 1400

Hi Everyone, i am looking to buy a very budget CPU mainly for gaming and light productivity tasks, i have come down to 2 processors as above, the I3 9100F (4C/4T) and the Ryzen 5 1400(4C/8T), my initial research shows that the I3 9100F is more powerful and has better performance than the Ryzen 5, the only thing i am not sure is if i should prefer Ryzen 5 just for the multi-threading ? 

 

I would also like to mention i would be doing some emulation (CEMU, RPCS3, Citra, etc.)

Wait for a couple of weeks. Zen 2 CPUs will launch on July 7. You might find a better CPU in the new lineup, or old CPUs might get discounted.

I have a 4C/4T CPU, it’s decent but I would never get it today. A Ryzen 1600 is extremely cheap now, get that. Waiting for Zen 2 would be good as well.

Don't buy any of them. They're both bad value and should be avoided.

If you're going to buy a CPU now (I recommend against buying a CPU until 7th July as that's when Zen 2 will be released) then buy a Ryzen 5 1600 instead, they're about the same price as a R5 1400 and will outperform both of them, not to mention it has 2 more cores.

If you think about it, the upcoming Ryzen 5 3600 at 199$ msrp is extremely good value and it should work fine on decent yet not so expensive B450 motherboards, you can put up a fairly inexpensive system that will both perform extremely well and last several years down the road.

 

Either ways the R5 1600 like stated or even the R5 2600 are solid choices with prices coming down significantly, might still be worth waiting the 7th of July new release either ways just to see if there will be any more cutting on price on those.

 

Bottom line though is that in no way the i3 9100F feels justified, being an i5 7500 rebrand this processor will cost you more, requiring a capable B360/B365 board which will still be behind any B450 features wise, while offering less since it comes with a terrible stock cooler that's both ineffective and extremely loud.

Thanks for all the great replies, i would probably wait till the 7th of July for the new releases now, and i checked out the Ryzen 5 1600, seems a much better value, lets see the new releases and make a decision.

Yes, you definitely should

 

more and more games are favoring the ryzen 5 since only 4 threads is starting to struggle with many games.

 

Now, I don't know what country you are from, but in most cases R5 1600 isn't much more expensive than the R5 1400 and has 50% more cores and threads so in that case I wouldn't bother with either of those and straight up go with the R5 1600

the might be better but the cheapest ryzen 3000 CPU is the R5 3600 and that one starts at $199, that is much more money than the two CPUS he is comparing

Not that restricted with the budget, really don't want to upgrade 1 year down the line with a slight increment so i would probably go for the R5 1600 unless something cheaper and better comes along at 7th July, which i doubt since every new product comes with the early adopter tax.

@Hardwood9059 honestly the ryzen 5 1600 is a great value CPU. Waiting for Zen 2 will mean even more price drops as well, making it more tempting.

Why not go withthe older $30 6c/12t xeons from aliexpress...

They offer excellent price to performance.
