Need Game Suggestions - 3v3

Edzel Yago

Hey guys,

I need competitive game suggestions for 3v3, ideally LAN capable (but not a hard requirement, need to be able to play against each other so not limited to matchmaking), hardware intensive  at 1080p (High settings). RTS, FPS, that sort of thing. Not turn based.

Thanks!

I think any game from the Counter-Strike series is great for LAN parties and you can have teams of 3 set up.

Not very hardware intensive though.

League of Legends and other similar MOBA's that have 3x3 maps?

Yeah, the problem is it's not hardware intensive. =P

So I haven't played a MOBA in a while... Can you have custom matches for a tournament or scrim?

Yeah CS:GO is my groups go to for lan parties, we have 6 players and do either 3v3 or add two bots to each team so it's a full 5v5, but really we only play that or Civilization 5 at our lan parties.

I think pretty much all good LAN party games are from a few years ago and not very hardware intensive.

In League of Legends you can create your own custom games so you could have a 3v3 set up. There even is a map made specifically for 3v3 games.

Oh we did custom games in Black Ops 4 for a little bit too, just FFA and TDM stuff like that.

Ok, not LAN. But just able to have 3v3 (not matchmaking). Need it for an LTT video. Really good for it to be hardware intensive at 1080p high settings.

Neither have I but from memory yes there is, on LoL you'll still play online instead of LAN but you can lock it only to your friends.

This certainly opens up more options! Just to confirm, online play is fine as long as you can create your own custom games with your friends instead of being matched with random people?

Correct. Must support 3v3 (or 4v4 or 5v5 but ideally balanced to be fine for 3v3... We can have dummy players who don't participate/die right away).

I think I do have one suggestion at the moment: Stellaris. It's a good multiplayer strategy. It gets a bit CPU intensive as the game goes on due to the amount of information that needs to be processed. Unfortunately, it doesn't have teams but you can form a federation with your two friends and battle out against the other federation.

I think that sort of game might be too slow.

=P This is actually helping narrow down requirements though, thanks.

So, ideally something that hardware performance would really hamper in-game performance (winning). I'm not sure if an RTS is great because while micro could be hampered, it might not make enough of a difference if the blob is still good (and nobody knows how to play).

An FPS where you stutter or have a low frame rate might hurt your aim, a MOBA might be good but I don't know about performance requirements yet...

I was going to suggest Crysis multiplayer but I think a community fix has to be used to make multiplayer work as official servers have shutdown.

Theoretically, you could have your own server running and just do a 3v3 match.

I have found some information on how to get multiplayer running again although haven't tested myself:

https://crymp.net/faq.php

To be honest, I am not sure if Crysis is really that intensive anymore these days.

Vermintide - Co-op? Need 3v3.

ARK also sounds more like a co-op. I don't know if it has PVP elements...? It's been a while since I played it.

Ashes might be an option but see my post above about RTSes.

Chivalry looks like it runs a bit too well.

Anthem, co-op.

Don't know about Just Cause 2 MP. Sounds jank.

Thanks though

part of the problem there are not that many games that are super intensive that are designed for 3v3 as by definition they are more competitive. so unsurprisingly performance over fidelity.

you could also r6 seige with 4k texture pack and cranked settings.

FOR HONOR

if not chivalry then Mordhau

Hunt Showdown

Killing floor 2 i believe you can be humans and zombies

also as a wildcard there is Skyfront which is a VR game (if you have enough headsets)

Hi Edzel,

Games you could play 3v3 from my selection are
Rocket League
Dont Starve Together (technically 6 in one server, but see which team survives the longest) (Takes a long time)

The biggest problem really is finding hardware intensive multiplayer games at all. Since MP is how game gets more views on YT/Twitch, its in developers best interest to skimp on graphics and make MP modes interesting overall.

That being said, Battlefield games? I haven't played anything since BF4, so I'm not that sure if they still do dedicated servers. If yes, then you can rent private server and run whatever game modes you want. Scrap that, little google shows I don't want to return glorious battlefield anymore. Oh, the good days, having fun with team mates on empty private server before going to ruin pubgames with 2-4 4-man squads.

My issue of giving any help, sadly, is that I don't game that much anymore. And that I don't like that many fps games overall.
