About Tormented games. [Question..sh.]

SO i know this is a touchy subject but it is just a simple question. 
if you look at a game like Fallout 4, and it requires 30+ GB of space, but they Repacks of the game are able to make it only 8GB, how is this possible?  

 

This was my question, A game like that, would it run worse then if you get it off steam? 
I ask this because I have a somewhat shit computer, (GPU) and would like to test and see if my computer could run it, its currently 40$ on steam, and I can pay for that, But I really don't want to get it, then not have it able to run on my computer

 

so yeah

You don't have a shit computer. A Ryzen 5 1600, and a GTX 1060 6GB is more than enough to push enough frames in Fallout 4. I have an i5 2400, 8gb ddr3 1333mhz and a GTX 1060 3GB and I'm able to get a constant 60 fps on the high preset. ( Which looks gorgeous ) And still runs flawlessly. Also, consider waiting for that game to go on sale. I got it for $15.00. It's almost summer, we're about to have summer sales across the board. Just do yourself a favor, and wait until steam summer sale occurs and then buy the game for cheap. Believe me, you'll thank me.

Also, im from Canada land - and I've been out of school for 4 weeks now and the sale isnt for 6 weeks. 

So ive been helllaa bored the price isn't the issue, Humble Bundle has it for 20$

Running it via steam isn't gonna hinder any performance at all I can assure you of that.

Regardless, it should still run fine. So there's nothing to worry.

Repacks are interesting because it entirely depends on how the repacker(s) in question bother with it.

Some will actively remove some data from the game (usually just FMVs and music if plausible) and then heavily compress those games further, for example.

 

That being said, repacks shouldn't perform any different from a legal copy of the game, assuming there's no copy protection that would actively harm performance (VMProtect, for example).

Repacks take out un needed content but mostly just compress things. It will install to be much larger than what the download size is. Also some games do perform significantly better as they remove the DRM like Denuvo which takes a 12-18FPS hit. Not saying you should pirate and your PC is fine. But it's not mermaid magic

You can get it for $10.00 on eBay pretty much any day of the week for the physical copy that comes with a bonus poster.

Compression, damn good one but need lot of cpu power and ram to compress and decompress. A friend of mine literally need hours to install a Naruto games on his laptop. Play just fine though. Steam game is barely compresssed or not compress at all for easy verification or incremental update i guess.
