What happens if you undervolt your cpu

It uses less power, and is cooler.

 

When cpus come out of the factory, they are set at a voltage, that is guaranteed to work with all chips, but more often than not, you will get a chip that can actually run at a lower voltage, and undervolting is taking advantage of that.

Unlike overclocking, undervolting can't harm your cpu, but if you go too low it won't be stable.

 

Like overclocking, it relies on the fact that you have won the silicon lottery, and you have a good chip.

It will consume less power and run at lower temps under load. If you undervolt too much, it will become unstable.

Undervolting gives:

+Less power draw

+Lower heat

-Lower performance (if Multiplier is on auto, it would downclock based on the voltage required)

-More instability (components need enough volts to get working, lowering might work but may fail)
