The 8TB one. Its performance probably loss isn't enough to matter against the WD Black if there is any and I'd rather have more storage when getting an HDD.

Either is fine, depends on how much actual space you need.

Given that they both are 7,200 RPM drives with 256 MB of cache and a 5-year warranty (which really doesn't mean anything), assuming no other features, then the 8TB drive will be better for bandwidth because it has higher data density.

 

EDIT: But it's very slight if at all. It's not going to be leagues better.

The Seagate is higher capacity, more energy efficient, and that model comes with a 2 year data recovery service. That is what I would go with (personally). The WD black offers a 227MB/s speed vs Seagate's 220MB/s...now real world, probably not enough to notice IMO.

If you want fast, you go with an SSD.

If you want more GB per dollar, you get an HDD.  Trying to compare the data throughput speeds of two high-capacity HDD is like seeing which model 1999 pickup truck is faster in a drag race, Ford F150 or Chevy Silverado, it's not what it's about.

The easy answer: if you're after storage, get MOAR storage and pick the 8TB one.  If speed is THAT important to you (you didn't list a budget) then get a 1TB SSD and call it a day.

They're both good drives, will perform almost identically (time them if you want) and last a very long time.
