Notifications changing refresh rate

Occurs in all games, if the game is not made entirely fullscreen, flashing windows/icons in taskbar (after receiving a notification) change my refresh rate back to 60Hz instead of 144Hz, until I click on the window to cease it from flashing.

Any ideas? Most searches I have conducted have returned no results at all.

is your display set to 144hz on desktop?

MSI GX660 + i7 920XM @ 2.8GHz + GTX 970M + Samsung SSD 830 256GB
