RPA vs Automation [Discussion]

BrownZeus

Hey guys,

So I've been doing some research into Robotic Process Automation and was curious to hear opinions.

Why would a company prefer to go with RPA rather than just automate with a given api?

Asking from the perspective of an entry level software engineer.

Well simply because it's faster to automate simple long tedious tasks. As it can learn directly from a human (sometime) and repeat it perfectly (again sometimes).

But the RPA do use the API to process everything anyway. Using the API itself takes more time to replicate task but you can automate much more than with just the RPA. Plus sometime precision base on human replication (if it replicate from human actions and not CNC or other machine code) is bad while API can be perfectly set. As for is the result is accurate that's irrelevant we are strictly speaking of perfect inputs/requirements here, what it output is limited by physical constraints.
