In need of a laptop

My girlfriend and I have been saving up for a laptop for her to use when she enters university.

The recommended laptop specification requirement on the school's website are as stated below

- Intel Core i5-2300 quad core processor (2.8GHz, 6MB cache) or better
- 8 GB RAM or more
- 500GB HDD space
- DirectX 11 cable graphics card with Shader Model 3

She'll be using AutoCad, BIM

Which laptop should we get?

I was thinking the Dell XPS 15, there are different models but if there are any recommendations, please.

- Prices under 2k SGD

- Under 2kg

- As for battery life, something like an average student would use.

Budget, location, weight, and battery life preferences would be helpful.

Avoid the 2018 xps lineup. Really inadequate cooling.

Lenovo y7000 can be had for 1500 sgd and is pretty solid. Better build quality than the acers.

Lenovo P52s can be had for 1500-2000 sgd. This would be the most school oriented of the one I looked at.

Acer A715-72g can be had for 1100 sgd

Pretty much a less gamer looking nitro v, so same comment as below.

Acer nitro v can be had for 1200 sgd. Cooling on this is mediocre. If you choose this one stay with the i5 1050 4g model. This is what I am using for school and it has treated me great. Definitely plastic construction though.

Edit: I should mention I just did a quick look through newegg Singapore as I dont know any stores local to you.

Source, please?

Notebook check has a pretty in depth review of the 15" i5 1050 model. Under stress tests it throttled down to 1.5 ghz.

Although by all means read owners comments and get one in your own hands. Most shops should have a demo unit.

I would argue that any laptop that throttles under load has inadequate cooling, but that would cover the overwhelming majority of laptops put out this generation and it seems to only be getting worse.
