EMENCII reacted to Darkseth in What to replace a paper notebook with?
Then i would recommend to keep your current one, and get the iPad (if you don't mind that separated), or you sell it, and get a Surface, so you have everything you want in 1^^
Like i said, if you can't find one, spend some time on Youtube, there are alot of Videos about Surface, how people work with it, etc etc ^^

13" is quite a nice size.
Pretty much everything with an 8th gen intel or with a ryzen cpu will do fine. If you don't need more than 8GB of RAM you're gold.
Some suggestions: XPS13, HP ENVY/SPECTRE, Lenovo X1, Asus itself had some nice ones (UX331?), LG Gram, Samsung notebook 9.

Yep... It is quite impossible IRL. Maybe if the RAM VRMs short-circuit it to 12V, but it's so unlikely it's not even fun

I haven't had any problems with buying the cheap keys from ebay as long as they're from a big seller. They came quickly in e-mail and activated online. If they might deactivate in future... I'm willing to take that chance. The price is so low anyway even if I rebuy every year it'll work out far less than going retail. Top tip: those keys are usually Pro versions. If you need to convert an install from home to pro, there is a conversion key that does that. It doesn't activate, only change the version of Win10. It wasn't hard to find on Google when I needed it.
The only problem I had was when I didn't pay attention and got a key from a seller with no history. They probably googled random keys which didn't work and refunded me. So, a bit of wasted time and a learning experience.

Cheap keys violate MS ToS someway. Legit OEM keys are $80 and retail $120. MS has every right and means to disable or blacklist any keys they find aren't used as supposed. This has happened to keys and systems 6-18mo after activation. Or sooner or later. Or you might be one of that lucky piraty bunch who gets away.

EMENCII reacted to ARikozuM in Does lower the resolution impact heavily on battery life?
It doesn't take much work to run a 4K panel unless you're gaming and even then you're still using the same power (pixel fill rate). If you're eying the 4K panel, just check reviews to see how long the battery lasts. If it can't hold you for the alloted time, just pass for the 1440 or 1080 panel.
Personally, I wouldn't bother with a 4K panel on a 17" or lower laptop unless you need some of the features only 4K panels provide, i.e. HDR.

I ordered mine from Kinguin when I built my PC 2 years ago. It worked fine, never deactivated, and to my happiness even transferred when I built my new 8700K machine.
EDIT: Looked at my purchase history on Kinguin and looks I got a "Windows 10 Professional OEM Key" from the internal seller "CheapOEMkey.com"

A shop like that for example, or at least, that one sounds reasonably reputable. You might have to call Microsoft's automated phone line, I've had to do that in the past.

And for an extra fee, they insure your purchase and they will give you a new one if it does not work. Make sure to read their installation guide.

EMENCII reacted to HunterSkater429 in Computer won't turn on
So my PC works now but I have no idea what was wrong. I gave up a storm but the side panel back on, came back an hour later and pressed power and it turned on. Literally didn't touch one thing it we t from not turning on to just randomly turnung on. Hope that's not a bad sign.

never seen such a thing happening, I'm sorry ^^'
I think that since it's not working anyway, a return might be a good option.

Well, they aren't exactly "flaws", it's more like "the cpu fits but it's recommended to get the new chipset", because things like what has happened to you might come.
z270 is a chipset, just get the same make/model if you need some specific features that the board you chose has.

When you get a job the pc you planned to do is going to be very old. I recommend waiting until you have the money and when you are sure you want to go for it then do it.

EMENCII reacted to nycesquire in Antimemetic: Scratch-built, Fully Passive, GTX 1080, SFF
Admit it, you thought I had given up, didn't you? Here's the story: I got busy with work, time passed. I started building the GPU cooling solution (which is complete - as demonstrated by the screenshot above) then three things happened:
1) I started getting into the SFF forums and well... I decided that Antimemetic was just too damn big. So much wasted space on the inside! I am not an SLI guy, so why bother with four heat sinks anyway? Where am I going to find the space for the gull wings in my tiny apartment?
2) I realized that copper wouldn't match my new office decor.
Most importantly:
3) I decided I wanted to keep it, not sell it, and I still wanted to automate it.
So I completely redesigned the thing! No copper. No hinges. Instead, low key stealth:
From the top:
And from the bottom:
Here we are without one of the heat sinks:
And without the other:
Here's a sense of size:
With a case this tiny, it'll actually be quite difficult to maneuver around inside. It is only 100mm from the inside of one heat sink to the inside of the other. Indeed, the entire width of the case, heat sinks included is less than 165mm...
SO HOW ABOUT WE AUTOMATE IT
The automation separates the heat sinks by a total of 200 mm for a total of 300mm of space inside to work. It is driven by a single large linear actuator. You can see the two rods that will push the heat sinks out. They ride on a set of drawer slides:
Let's be honest with each other though: These heat sinks are monstrously heavy. There's no guarantee that the slides will support the weight without sagging or otherwise falling apart. If, in the sad face case, the automation is unsuccessful, It'll be a dark day, but I will settle for this alternative:
An even tinier, but much simpler and sturdier case.
Next up, an in-depth description of the cooling solution (with pictars). I'd love your feedback!

EMENCII got a reaction from MattShnoop in if a WD Black 1TB is getting full, it will be slower?
Theoretically no, practically there might be something. If the drive is getting full, benchmark it and see how it scores. Mine went from 190MB/s to ~150, but I wouldn't say it is the rule.

Nothing to apologise for i will have a look when im not working! That is a good point though up until now i have just been looking on Amazon, Maybe i should have a go at OverClockers.com and a few other sites to see whats up.
Also iv only just realised that there is a price comparison list on PcPartPIcker.com so that will come in handy when it get to it.
