Both have competitive offerings for workstations. What exactly are you planning to do with the workstation?

Looks like it's running PCIe 3.0 x16, and operating normally. Z370 does not support PCIe 4.0, which is why you're seeing 8 GT/s instead of 16 GT/s.

This is unlikely to be optimal. Unless you got insanely lucky with the 5600X, running 2000MHz FCLK is very hard (only a single digit percent of CPUs can do that), so either you're running desynced FCLK and getting bad performance, your hitting the FCLK's ECC and getting very bad performance, or XMP is disabled and your getting bad performance. Keep the timing's of that kit's XMP and lower the frequency down to 3800MT/s and manually set the FCLK to 1900MHz, there are very few CPUs that can't do those settings and that should get you pretty close to optimal performance values from it.

No, nothing that would be remotely noticeable.

QuickSync on Ivy Bridge only has H.264 and MPEG-2.

Run with what you have, and only upgrade if it becomes a problem.

You'll need to read the Intel Developer manual for the Xeon Phi if you wish to attempt to use it.

As Mel0n said, they are not for the faint of heart, and the typical compile workloads are not going to benefit from it even if it did work.

Please don't buy a Phi. There's absolutely nothing you can do on them, bought one to mess around with a while ago and they are quite useless, unfortunately - probably would be slower than your CPU if you got it working anyway.

Asking pointless questions just to ask questions is not how the forums work. This isn't social media where you post to gain responses and random thoughts/thinking out loud type of things. Also adding that continually to just dump threads in General Discussion is also viewed as Spam when there are more appropriate subforum sections related to the conversation.

The XMP is present in 90%+ of the DDR4.
As stated before - JEDEC is "maxed out" at 3200MT/s

svmlegacy reacted to RONOTHAN## in fx-8159 thermal throtlling at 41c
There's a decent chance that this is some form of power throttling, as in the VRM of the motherboard is overheating and causing the CPU to throttle to prevent the motherboard from blowing up. Unless you're on a relatively high end AM3+ motherboard, which not many existed or made sense to buy, this is pretty likely. You can see if your board has a thermal sensor readable in something like HWINFO, but on old boards like that it's about 50/50 whether it does or not.

At a minimum you need to upgrade the motherboard, CPU, and RAM, as there's no point in sticking with AM3+ or DDR3.

Most modern i3's or R3's will feed a 970 happily.

The chipset itself doesn't really matter that much, what matters is how the boards are actually implemented. Both of these boards are very similar, with only some minor differences between them. The ASUS board, for instance, will likely have better memory support than the Gigabyte board (Gigabyte's DDR4 memory topology on B660/Z690 was terrible and there's no reason they would've gone and fixed it for B760/Z790), while the Gigabyte board is cheaper and has features like BIOS Flashback. Unless you were planning on getting a rather high end kit of RAM to run memory speeds like 4000 CL16, I'd save the $10 and go with the Gigabyte board, but if you do want to do some memory overclocking or run anything faster than 3600MT/s CL18 get the ASUS board.
