I have no experience of either device so I can only speculate. The Surface CPU is very low power. Dual core Kaby Lake at 1.6 GHz, and I'm guessing the iGPU isn't great either. That iPad was released the same year as my iPad mini gen 5. It does look like the iPad has an older chip in it than my mini, but given they came out about the same time I think it'll be the better option vs the Surface.
 
If you do go for the iPad, check it in person before buying if possible. Part of the reason I sold my Mini was it was physically not holding up very well. It actually slightly bent somehow, and the power button was failing. The build quality was not as good as other Android tablets I've owned.

Just get this. You can't go wrong with any decent iPad. I'm personally using a Redmi Pad SE. It costs around €200 but I got it for free with my Xiaomi phone. But honestly, I would just get a refurbished iPad if I was you. If you get one on the Apple Store, you are still getting one with a new battery and some warranty.

I was looking at it but it did not fit my tablet mount so I discarded it from the selection. I think it would be better than the Tab A 10.1 I have but I am unsure how much. I also have no idea how good the Lenovo software is nor if it has any custom roms to remove bloat.

Try for an galaxy s6 lite new or used.
 
This lenovo is ok but also quite slow. Also keep in mind lenovo's tablet software quality is not great and you'll never get an update or fix if something is wrong usually.

I would say don't get the 2019 Samsung Tab A 10.1
 
I just bought one second hand a week or so ago and while it is fine for YouTube or other steaming, the 2GB RAM is awful and it is anything but snappy even with custom firmware. Hard to complain for €50 though 🙂
 
I belive the Tab A7 lite is in the same camp, from what I have seen on XDA it was practically ewaste on release.
 
I saw a Samsung Tab S6 lite for €150 on my local market and that would have been a much better deal.

Look up TECLAST T40 Pro in your area Amazon. This is an old model so might not be around any more, but there are newer similar models. I got one new last year and it still works fine. I only use it for light gaming and rarely viewing streamed video.

Upgraded my mom's laptop from 4 to 8 gb ram (ddr3 that is) as well as from hdd to ssd some years ago. For everything she uses it for its still plenty, that being office, mails, Internet etc
Even my laptop, which I only rarely use, has only 8gb.
Got that one second hand for dirt cheap. I only ever use it when I build or troubleshoot computers somewhere else so I have a functioning system to download stuff or create a win install stick if needed.

That's exactly what I thought after realizing what a good solution costs. I have one spare DP on my gpu (1x hdmi and 2 dp already in use) 
The hdmi is needed for my Lg CX oled so I guess I will just run dp to hdmi to the living room TV then.

My observations regarding ray tracing: many Nvidia users usually disable it to get higher performance. Furthermore, many posts can also be found from Nvidia users who claim to disable ray tracing because they find it less attractive in style. (More realistic is not necessarily prettier)
 
I also think higher specs than my build are overkill for 1440p gaming. This build is normally minimum 8 years future proof for most games. 
A faster SSD may be useful to load games even faster, but this SSD is already fast.
 
Blind tests have proven that 99% of people don't see any difference between 80fps and 240fps. So 80fps is the point that higher frame rate no longer has any effect.

@LauriHimself if the primary use will be gaming then how about something such as this.

You identified the main one already, the RT performance. If they do stuff other than gaming it may also matter, e.g. 3D productivity performance isn't the best (more here).

Definitely the first one, XTX is well worth 80 euro extra, since it is much better than the Ti and the CPU more suited for a gaming build than the 13700K (which is good for a mixed or mainly productivity build).

Thanks for the concern everyone. We are still in recovery mode over here and working with YouTube to get everything restored. Guess it'll work as the CX has g-sync etc so it's essentially a normal display to my pc for all I know

the stretch could be the display, make sure it's not set to auto-scale resolutions. most displays by default will try to fill the entire display no matter what resolution is given to it, which would cause that issue. 

assuming your signature is current and you have an nvidia gpu, custom resolutions can be set in nvidia's control panel.

But hear me out, because there's actually some solid reasoning behind this idea.
First of all, let's talk about why cooling your GPU is so important. Your GPU, or graphics processing unit, is responsible for rendering all of the beautiful graphics that you see on your screen. And just like any other electronic component, it produces a lot of heat as it works.
If that heat isn't properly dissipated, it can cause your GPU to run less efficiently, or even worse, it can cause permanent damage to the hardware. That's why most GPUs come with their own built-in cooling systems, usually in the form of a heatsink and fan combo.
But here's the thing: those stock cooling systems aren't always the most effective. They can be loud, they can be bulky, and they can even cause your GPU to run hotter than it would without any cooling at all.
That's where butter comes in.
Now, before you start slathering your GPU in a stick of margarine, let me explain how this works. The key is to use a high-quality, high-fat butter, like European-style butter. This type of butter has a lower melting point than regular butter, which means that it can more easily absorb and dissipate the heat from your GPU.
To use butter as a cooling solution, you simply apply a thin layer of it to the heatsink on your GPU. The heat from the GPU will cause the butter to melt, and as it melts, it will absorb the heat and carry it away from the GPU.
This might sound like a bit of a hack, but it actually works really well. In our tests, we found that using butter as a cooling solution resulted in lower temperatures and better overall performance from our GPUs.

So, there you have it. Butter might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of cooling solutions, but it's actually a surprisingly effective way to keep your GPU running at its best. Give it a try and see the difference for yourself.
