Basically using a molex to pcie adapter just for the extra grounds? Yeah that shouldn’t cause any issues. That’s technically better than using a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter.

Terabyte_272 reacted to Crunchy Dragon in Can a GPU affect CPU temps?
If the new GPU is physically larger, it could impact airflow and in turn, temperatures.

Your temperatures are within the safe zone still, I'd worry when they start crossing 100 degrees. If you're concerned, you can try buying a new CPU cooler or adding some case fans to improve airflow.

As a NVidia fanboi get a 4070 ($550), it's a good 1440p card (performance comparable to a 3080, with better efficiency and thermals)
On AMD side you can save some money with a 7800XT ($450), which is also a bit faster except in RT

I understand wanting to make something that looks good, but performance should always come first. This is what I would build for $1,500: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/DgbLJy - Still relatively clean with a notable performance & quality boost. Think about it... You won't be able to see your PC at all sometimes, so is all the pretty RGB really worth it?
Ray tracing with frame generation is more of a cataracts simulation than a solution to anything.

It would only end up deleting on the one drive. Programs that are installed on your main drive will need to be reinstalled, there's no getting around that, though depending on the launcher game reinstalls shouldn't be necessary. Steam lets you import a library with ease, I'm pretty sure EpicGames does not have that functionality (at least I haven't been able to figure out how to get it to work), and no idea about the other ones like GOG.

Thats fair. im starting to go crazy. the soft crash i had was a different problem that may have been caused by audio drivers? Ill have to see if I get the other crash again (However its very likely at this point) Just found another error event with "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\RaidPort1." Is it possible and drive is failing? Fuck sake Im so confused

You can try a 30minute stress test to see if that's fine.

Are you running any curve optimizer or any other sort of PBO tuning settings? With the curve optimizer especially, instability with it doesn't show up under full load but instead under very light loads like games, browsing the internet, or even just sitting at the desktop.

That is way too hot for a 5800X and a 360mm freezer II, check your mounts and paste.

In my experience at least, that BSOD is usually caused by unstable RAM or occasionally CPU. I'd start running some stress tests for both to see which is the one causing it.

Did you ever pull the wires?
If the connector on the PSU is fine, you should be able to just replace the cable.
It has to be compatible with the specific PSU model and version

This is why its so helpful to have another cpu to double check for insanity.

It sounds like either the Bios Update failed, the PCIE is having a potential issue, or the CPU is DOA. Also make sure you have the cable plugged into the DP or HDMI in the closest slot to you, or try all the ports. Sometimes they are very particular with where the display goes.

Just thought I’d update you. I went ahead and set it up in there. Under normal loads like chrome and VSCode, it actually runs pretty cool. The one game I’ve tested so far (train world sim 3) made it bounce off 90 Celsius. I’m considering putting a fan inside the cubby somewhere to force the hot air out. Until then, I can slide my pc out on the built in tray and that helps a lot.

I've seen worse you could probably get away with it. If you wanted you could always drill a hole in the back and add a fan to the Cubby to exhaust the hot air lol. Just try it with a heavy load and watch the temps!

    For getting it on:
Side opposite the lever first, then the lever

    Getting off:
Heat up thermal compound with a load to get it soft, then lever side all the way undone and push down slightly pulling the tab away slightly, should pop off.

Terabyte_272 reacted to Zando_ in Is my air flow ok for my rig?
All good 👍. You could swap the radiator to intake (to insure the rad gets the freshest air possible), that's the setup I run. But I don't know if it actually makes any measurable difference. So long as you're not having temp issues your airflow is good, people do tend to overly worry about it. I've never had issues with any reasonable setup with at least ok fans.

No it’s not needed, that’s just a second pci plug for if your gpu needs more connections. Though if you did need a second, usually better to use a second cable instead of daisy chaining it.

It honestly sounds like maybe a crummy fan motor or coil whine. My secondary PC has a 2070 mini super and that card screams like a *redacted*. If it is a fan motor, you can source one on ebay and install it yourself. I did that with that same card when a fan blade detached. It is also hard to hear in this video.

They work pretty well just make sure there is a good intake for the fans. I have a lian li 011 mini and two 120mm fans on intake works well for a 6900xt and 3800x
