SenKa got a reaction from RoseLuck462 in 52,600$ fully loaded mac pro
Reasons for the Mac Pro being expensive:
Assembled in USA
Intel price-gouging Xeon's
ECC DDR4 price being inflated
Fantastic build quality
Fully modular designs are more expensive
Gen 1 product (we pay R&D. Same as with Galaxy Fold)
macOS License baked in to price
Dual 10GBe NIC (even on base model)
There is more, but I honestly CBA to repeat myself.

Scalable Xeons are available that support 2TB, it's not Apple specific.
Go here: https://www.thinkmate.com/system/hpx-xs8-24s1
That's the workstation market without the Apple tax.
I just built a 48 core/96 thread, 2TB RAM, 4TB SSD, 2x RTX 48GB Quadro monstrosity for $53k that would take enormous dumps all over Apple's top spec'd Mac Pro. Or you know, you could spend about half of that and come out to what Apple has on offer.

SenKa got a reaction from Zando_ in Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Looks like my tacoma is staying for the long haul!
225k miles and isn't skipping a beat. And, being a tinkerer I just can't leave well enough alone... Rear leaf springs are nearing the end of their life, as even the tiny 2.4l 4 banger has begun twisting the springs in front of the axle. This is a known issue, but one I really don't care to fix again. Sooo.... 4 link time!
I'll be taking my sweet time doing this right as none of the guys who used to sell kits seem to do it anymore. I'll be lowering the truck a bit as well. I won't be laying frame, but I want it to be a bit more sporty and stuck to the road. Goal is 3" dropped out of the front, and 4 in the rear. Should be level at 3" lower than stock, which is as low as I can go without needing to C notch the frame. Pictured is about what that will look like.
I used to be really big in to remote control cars, specifically modding them, and a lot of what I learned there will apply here. I will be going for a triangulated 4 link in theory, fuel tank may have other ideas depending on where it is. I think it's out of the way, but I don't remember and can't check until tomorrow when the sun is out. I don't want to put a fuel cell in the bed because I do use it for actual work sometimes

SenKa got a reaction from Flying Sausages in PIA Acquisition by Kape Technologies
Cancelled my PIA subscription last month, was considering renewing. Glad I didn't.

SenKa got a reaction from Ben17 in Canadian fined $35,000 for hurting feelings *Update, Jokes won.
Following to watch the shitshow go down.
This is insane, and anybody who supports the courts decision probably is as well (though feel free to prove me wrong, I honestly want to be.)

SenKa got a reaction from james_castrello in Pi-Hole Setup Tutorial
Can PiHole be used as a router? Say, if I got 2 gigabit USB 3.0 adapters and plugged one LAN cable in to each.
Probably a very noobish question, im new to this stuff.
EDIT: Duh... I can just use a switch ?♂️

SenKa got a reaction from Ben17 in IBM portable personal computer
Well, plug it in and turn it on to see what it does.
If it shows any signs of life, you'd be better off selling it off. Theyre worth a pretty good amount of money.

SenKa got a reaction from Ben17 in IBM portable personal computer
That is a somewhat later PPC than mine, I have the original 5155 model. Happy to see more, regardless!
Does it still work?

SenKa got a reaction from 3 Lions in How to convince my family to let me upgrade to windows 10
As if it's any different from any other Windows installer...
You don't even need to DO anything, free upgrades still work. Just install the media creation utility and use it to run the upgrade.
And why do you care? You certainly act like this kids parent, but I doubt you are.
But you tried to help him

SenKa reacted to mariushm in How to convince my family to let me upgrade to windows 10
Then just be smart about it and don't download stupid crap from porn sites and whatever.
Didn't you read? He wants to mess up the computer (he admits he never installed Windows 10 before) only because he has a hacked client and he needs to install windows TODAY to test the hack - he probably wants to cheat in some game or something like that.
He doesn't give a shit about computer running better with Windows 10 and doesn't really care about higher security.
Not worth bothering to help such people.

SenKa got a reaction from SolidSonicTH in RIPPED-OFF on Ebay AGAIN! - Intel "Black Ops" CPU
In the simplest terms, Intel Microcode is a layer of coding between the CPU and BIOS that acts like both a security measure (though... not always a great one) and a translator. The BIOS does not talk directly to the CPU, and the CPU does not talk directly to the BIOS.
In this case, bad microcode is kind of like an Afrikaans (a dutch rooted language) and Dutch speaker trying to communicate. They can kind of get the gist, but not all the information spoken is perceived accurately on the other side.

It's preferable to wrap it in something soft more than anything else, ESD isn't really much of a killer these days

SenKa got a reaction from Mister Woof in Do I have a dangerous PSU
Makes sense, given that those are very new components that really only hit the 12v rail
For modern systems the Focus Gold+ is perfectly fine, and really quite good so far as single rail units go.
