I have a super basic TP-Link switch too, it's been 100% reliable except for once where it locked up during a very very short power outage, which is completely fair in my opinion.

Let me know when you get that info, I may not be monitoring this thread but feel free to PM me and I'll get a notification. Hopefully it wont take much work to get this sorted, redoing the wiring so everything except internet traffic is routed through the switch could be a good idea.

If you get the chance, make sure that any kind of ingress/egress prioritisation, traffic shaping or QoS settings on your router are disabled; same with jumbo frames. Many ISP provided routers don't handle that kind of stuff well.

Does this affect all devices on your network or just your own pc?

Are Plex or your video files hosted on your PC or another device on your network?

@Mikensan Deluge you can even use the command line.. deluge-cli so you can control it over ssh.. or as a thin client setting the GTK interface to classic mode and connecting remotely. It's pretty good software. qBittorrent has grown on me a little bit though as well over the years.. it's got a very good interface not quite as flexible however. It's web interface is probably the best though.

Deluge here as well, works fantastic. Threw up a quick CentOS + deluge, enabled the web GUI and called it a day.

@Mikensan is right.. but better clients have more control.

I personally like Deluge and qBittorrent. There are various apps that can control them remotely. (Including builtin web interfaces for both of them.)

utorrent bittorrent deluge all allow you to set a "hot" folder. They will monitor this folder for .torrent files. So you could just download the .torrent to say a google drive - have google drive installed and sync'd on said torrent box, and have your favorite torrenting software monitor that folder. Just be sure to set the download directory to something other than your google drive.

hopefully that's still the same path to set the "watched' folder for whatever version you're running.

Just to add, one of the annoying issues with FTP is opening all those PASV / passive ports. Not hard, just annoying. If you go those route, at least change it from the default port so automatic bots don't go knocking on your FTP door.

this makes sense, remember whenever you read or write anything there is the read/write head physically moving to the position where it wants to write to, with en empty HDD it can basically write almost anywhere and only has a short distance to cover, if the HDD gets full it will need to move to the next free sector before it can perform the next write operation.

You can copy and paste, just not "tab". Haven't had an issue copy/paste yet.

I would look at using SCP over SSH - it will behave like FTP. Lot of options anyway. Glad you found a solution.

SSH and Powershell for everything really...
Heck, setup an azure account and just use a file system connector.
Now you can just connect to a cloud based management console for any web browser.

Then you can start to automate things... then you can call yourself a cloud engineer, with actually being a cloud engineer.

Apparently MS has a SSH server in Windows 10 now. (bout time) It's hidden though. I wonder if you could get a bash shell up on that instead of having to use dos syntax.. hmm.

Teamviewer gives you direct access to the desktop, just use it like a computer instead of using the file manager.

File/Folder manipulation via a phone seems like a PITA honestly. I'd have to agree, getting in via SSH and just using commands would be much simpler. Really there's maybe 5 commands you'd ever use with what you want to do... God if you had the tab key it would be extremely simple to do from a phone.

CD                      Change directory... I.E. CD C:\windows
DIR or LS           Lists files/folders in the directory
    CP                      Copy...
    MV                      Move
    MKDIR                Make Directory

Reinstall the os as openmediavault. It's super simple, and you can manage it from a browser. Then you can make a shared folder available to smb and ftp, so your phone has direct access to it.

Install transmission, then install a remote on your phone and every other computer. That way your server does the downloading, but any device can see what's running and manage them easily. You can also port forward the default 9091 and manage from anywhere, even outside your network.

By reading your description you need ftp software, but your title is for remote management

Both are 2 different things, while some software can create and manage files between network but it wasn't intended for that purpose.

If you need ftp software any free software can do what you want, but for simple and better management file, I suggest es file explorer pro, there is free version but it's bloated with junks.
