hi all,

i have a 4TB WD Red connected to Gigabyte Z370 HD3 board . 2 weird things happened;

1- hdd usable space is 3.63 TB shown in file explorer and i copied around 2.3TB to the drive and right now it show 30 GB free space and red bar that hdd is full. I have the same directory (which i copied to the WD RED) sitting on my Seagate Ext Drive and size is 2.3 TB.

2- i didnt a test with CrystalDiskMark 10 days ago when hdd was empty and results were Read/Writre : 188mb/s / 188mb/s

 now i did the same test and i am getting 88 mb/s

what is causing these weird issues?

tia

I've heard that drives can slow down when they're more than 50% full, not sure though.

this makes sense, remember whenever you read or write anything there is the read/write head physically moving to the position where it wants to write to, with en empty HDD it can basically write almost anywhere and only has a short distance to cover, if the HDD gets full it will need to move to the next free sector before it can perform the next write operation.
