i would wait until september so i could find a 5700 with a custom cooler, not the blower one that is hot and noisy

the 1660 is nice but i would go for the 5700 if you can wait, if you cant, and the price is reasonable the 1660 has nothing wrong and is a very good option

I actually have a powerline adaptor with a network port. I connected this to the desktop and the speed was terrible - 6mps download compared to over 20 connected to the router.

    thanks for the tips though

you can buy a killawatt and measure exactly how many watts you use

usually when the power breaker shorts the prpblem is not just watts, is amps being used by the device, if the breaker is just 20amps and the devoce uses 30 you have a electric shutdown of that part of the house

seek the help of a electrician to fix such problems

you dont know why it is the electricity going out, so yes, could be possible

that is why i keep saying that you should get a electrician checking all the wiring and fixing breakers and all outlets that need repairs

check the asus site, this motherboard is for ddr4 2400mhz, not ddr3, but there is confusion because asus also mentions ddr3

i saw that motherboard years ago, is ddr4

goto10 got a reaction from Ben17 in Buying Windows
this is correct, however, if you call support, they might allow you the hardware change if you claim that you made a motherboard change under warranty, i heard people that they claim ram or gpu changes and they allow the reactivation, no matter how much hardware you changed

i wish microsoft stopped selling those licenses, they should give them for free, so all this license nigthmare would go away, have to keep up with the details of the licenses, conditions and costs involved, they should just give them for free, most of us just use windows for go online and for games

very few of us get any money from using windows, is not like we are on a enterprise network or something like that generating millions of dollars per month

well, who has the last word is microsoft there, if it was for them, you cant reuse old keys ever, so buy one on their store at the price they want and thats it

in the end, if license is activated and microsoft doesnt complain, that is what the end user sees, there is so many detials about licenses that fee microsoft employees understand, if you ask them, all you can do is buy the license from the store and nothing more

peace of mind comes from their store, the rest depends on users having good experiences and a purchase supported by a store, if key stops working, you should ask for a full money refund, so buy the license key on a site that supports the buyer completelly

who said something about pirated stuff?

we are talking about new licenses, about old licenses, if windows servers allow the activation, then it is ok for them, otherwise alot of people who migrated from win7 to win 10 would have the activate windows watermark

about those keygens and activators, no one is talking about that and is asking for problems when you run those, so dont even mention them

goto10 got a reaction from Ben17 in Buying Windows
the unoficial official information about keys sold by scdkey and similar sites is that those are cheap oem keys meant to be sold on markets where the cost of such keys is appropiate, supposedly tjose keys should not be sold online outside the countries where that price is correct, but it seems that the keys are not only valid but tehcnically legal

those sold on ebay no idea, if you see someone selling old win 7 keys, those can be used to activate windows 10, but yes, you could get a key that ends not working after a couple months, so buy on a site where you can get your money back if the key all of a sudden stops working

also you can run windows 10 without a license, you get a nice watermark on the screen telling you to buy a license untill you buy a license

goto10 got a reaction from Herman Mcpootis in enough watts for my build?
no, 750 watts are not needed, but a 600 watts is almost as close as the one on the original question, also usually a 750 watt psu is better quality than lower models, so it is recommended for multiple reasons, not just the total power consumption

sshd are not useful, the ssd part is quite small, so wont fit or the game you want or windows

just buy a cheap ssd and a normal hard disk and forget the sshd, as most people did, cheap ssds made this technology obsolette

goto10 got a reaction from Ben17 in SSHD Drives or regular hard drives
then there is no pint on buying one, start thinking on moving all ssd or even nvme, hard disks are being replaced, fast, there are very few hard disk manufacturer companies now and most are moving to ssd only, hard disks will become dirt cheap and all of a sudden will vanish one day

if it doesnt come out it might have come with the motherboard riser, if you can leave it there, do it, if it is bending or warping the motherboard i would disasemble and remove the screw and the risers

also check that all motherboard risers are not coming out so it happens again

This,  I have a 7 PC the same, it was legit and I replaced the motherboard (original borked) I am entitled to reactivation but couldn't be arsed and just left it running inactivated.

If you don't want to pay for a license (for whatever reason, I don't personally care), then at least just run non activated and avoid the issues that might arise from dodgy activator apps and buying OEM licenses from 3rd parties.

I still recommend putting windows on your SSD too, that will likely contribute to good gaming performance as well. Your old HDD will still maintain all your files so it should be a fairly painless drag-and-drop to get everything in the right spot for you.

goto10 reacted to mariushm in How is this ryzen 5 3600 working on a320m!!?? (Fake??)
Dude, the 3600 is a 65w TDP processor. Pretty much all A320 boards are designed to work with up to 95w TDP processors.

The difference between A320 boards and the boards with other chipsets is that the other boards have higher quality mosfets that are more efficient, so there's less heat produced, and that you often have a heatsink which helps even further.
This means there's higher potential for overclocking on the non A320 motherboards and the voltage produced by the VRM of those boards is better, which can often make a difference in the CPU being able to boost 50-100  Mhz higher when there's reserves.

With a cpu like 3600 at default frequencies, the mosfets of that A320 board will probably run at 80-90 degrees Celsius ... which is quite high but still fine... the chips are rated for 125 degrees Celsius and the motherboard has a thermal sensor which will throttle the CPU (to reduce the power demands) if the VRM goes over around 100-110 degrees.
The sustained heat can however be a problem for the components around these mosfets .. the polymer capacitors, the inductors, the ceramic capacitors, the circuit board.
In comparison, a B350 or B450 board with better quality mosfets and a heatsink on the mosfets will most likely hover around 60 degrees Celsius
Basically, it's an issue of long term reliability ... if ran constantly at 80-90 degrees, the motherboard may start to manifest issues after 2-5 years of use.... while the higher end boards will go over 5-10 years without any issues.

Keep in mind that NOTHING stops you from actually getting a heatsink made of copper or aluminum and thermal pads and attach this over the mosfets... you'll easily improve the thermal dissipation by a few degrees.

goto10 got a reaction from TechyBen in Is it safe to test whether or not a computer will power on without a CPU heatsink installed?
i wouldnt do it, if the motherboard refuses to shut down by itself for not finding the cpu fan connected or never goes into thermal shutdown, you can loose that cpu

if you need to test, do it with a cpu heatsink, use a tiny amount of thermal paste so you dont waste much

test parts shouldnt be the same as take dumb risks and hope for the best
