Radium_Angel got a reaction from Internet Swag in Should we stop supporting Nvidia?
While I wouldn't call myself a "fan" of nVidia, I use them because my experiences with AMD cards have been less than stellar. If AMD were to improve their drivers, then I'd consider it.

Sooo That's why my ~1PiB Chia farm was so troublesome to set up. I thought device limit was 127 per controller with Depth of 5. But once i added 1 too many i would see drop outs and different on every power cycle. Seemed like a max of about 40 drives, 20 dual bays or so. So I ended up buy a Febsmart 1-controlller and a 4-controller card so it has a total of 6 USB controllers on a Dell SFF box, 8th gen Intel. Yes, internal PC just has 1 controller. I guess Febsmart doesn't have super duper Endpoint support.
I think all my connections is a 7-port powered hub and then connecting more 7-port hubs from 1 of the first four ports of that hub so 1+1(or2 if using port 5+ on 2nd deep hub) + the device, so 4 deep, not issue.
91 devices, most of which are dual-bays. not sure how to get total tally of # of endpoints with that software.

USB supports up to 127 devices, so I'm gonna guess at least 7.

Radium_Angel reacted to MSMSMSM in Download speed is lying to me
Interesting choice of data point aside, it's because of a variety of reasons:
ISPs can be engaging in traffic shaping and prioritizing speed tests (or throttling P2P connections) The speed test server can be geographically proximate to your current location (versus your P2P peer) As a general rule of thumb, speed is determined by the slowest link in the chain (i.e. the bottleneck), if your ISP-to-local machine link doesn't have the bottleneck, then it can be limited by elsewhere in the chain Also, make sure you're comparing equivalent units, MB/s =/= Mb/s, 1 MB (megabyte) = 8 Mb (megabit)

single sticks of RAM will impact performance in a negative way. Go for laptops with 2x$RAM Stick instead
Also, I personally wont use a Lenovo laptop because of their long history of shady business practices.
Asus quality control has fallen rather hard as of late.

RT superconductivity is bogus. It doesn't exist. I hope these ass-clowns get rug pulled and their credentials shredded.

Radium_Angel reacted to mbilker in Sega's Gaming PC and Its Dark Secrets
Hello there! I happen to help operate one of the "private networks" mentioned in the video. Linus Tech Tips got pretty much all of the details about the online with revenue sharing games correct, including what is done to get these games talking to unofficial servers in the first place.
However, many games shipped on the SEGA ALLS platform and SEGA's older platforms (e.g. Nu, RingEdge, RingWide, Lindbergh) can run offline with no connection to SEGA. Notably, these can be (generally, as usual there are exceptions, like WACCA) identified by their black colored keychip. The red, blue, and yellow colored keychips indicate the different tiers of revenue sharing with SEGA. Sometimes, games will receive an offline patch and/or offline-specific keychip so the cabinets can still be run when their online services end instead of turning into paper weights. Some examples of this happening are WACCA, crossbeats Rev., and SEGA World Drivers Championship. WACCA and crossbeats Rev. shipped with black keychips straight from the factory as they did not have revenue sharing with SEGA. SEGA World Drivers Championship required revenue sharing but if an arcade purchased the offline conversion kit, they were shipped a black keychip to install, which disabled all the online functionality and unlocked all modes instead of requiring you to play each one, which is very nice since there are dozens of stages.
Overall, this is a decent video of the world of getting these games working outside their official service areas.

Intellectual property is a monopoly of an idea and not a real propriety, piracy is just the natural competitor created by the own market. 100% support for these people making clandestine networks, sales model by IP that is wrong.

Subscription features in cars need to die. One thing is paying for a service that requires company time and is extra cost for them, like running servers for remote features. Fair enough, if they offer them for decades even to old cars, fair enough. But charging people monthly for heated seats and other similar bullshit, then no. Absolutely not and I hope more get hacked to a level they'll abandon this dumb idea. Which we all know it'll never happen and they'll just utilize even more draconian DRM measures, but hope is there.

First of all, I hope this does not break forum rules on piracy.
Summary
A security reasercher and three German students reportedly have discovered an exploit unlocking paid features in AMD-based Tesla cars, making this the world's first Tesla jailbreak. The hack exploits a vulnerability in the MCU (Media Control Unit), "tricking the car" into thinking premium subscription features have been paid for.
Further, the researchers claim the attack is "Unpatchable" as it is based on a vulnerability in the embedded AMD Secure Processor, not in any of Tesla's software.
Jailbreaking the car's computer does not only give the user access to paid premium features; however - theoretically, users could run any code they want once the vehicle is jailbroken.
The researchers have reported they used "low-cost, off-the-shelf hardware" (or "off-the-self", as the article says) to accomplish the jailbreak.

My thoughts
It was bound to happen eventually, anything with what is functionally an entire computer in it will of course be exploitable to some degree. Paid subscriptions for car features is absolute bullshit, but I would not be surprised if X-Corp starts permanently locking the vehicles of people who attempt this exploit, if the means to do so ever are revealed to the public.
