Yeah, there don't seem to be too many options like you're asking for.  Most are adhesive or screw in.

I might just DIY a solution: Get one of these clamps, and stick/glue my preferred cable clip on top.

This is a really cool idea, but one that may not be practical.

    1. they don't provide this gear. It literally doesn't leave the labs of either the chip-makers or their NDA'd partners
    2. ... it's not representative of the experience an end-user will have anyway, making it academically interesting, but practically-speaking kind of irrelevant.

Youtubers doing Youtube things. It's rare for him to call out a certain brand, but it does happen (see below). But in this case he definitely wants those extra clicks.
Is it completely unfair? Well it's a product a lot of people want to know about, and those people generally won't find his channel. I watched his channel a ton when I was deciding on a battery power brand, but you usually don't encounter his channel.
Now any 'normal' person looking for a short ratcheting screwdriver like this, will find his channel, and they likely won't have a big brand preference. But LTT fans will just want to buy this one, so if pushing the LTT name and logo helps push this video between your regular Youtube feed, that is a massive win for him, but also for possible buyers, because they will get exposed to quality testing.

So I don't feel like it's cheap clickbait, but he does use what he can to get as many viewers as possible. But I'm super biased, because I think he's channel is a must watch when you buy tools.

I 100% support unions, but a union is only as strong as it’s leadership. Many are run very poorly, protect members who’ve acted inappropriately, and work to benefit mostly those at the top. Unions are a mixed bag. They really take honest people leading them who work for the benefit of all and in a selfless way.

While I'm sure the OP was well-intentioned, this is neither the time nor place to start a debate on gender diversity. The topic quickly diverging in to an argument about transgender issues and following discussion about moderation has only further derailed discussion. I do not believe it would be possible to get the topic back on track without some heavy-handed moderation and removal of a large portion of the comments, which would likely only exacerbate the latter issue. For the sake of transparency none of the posts in this thread have been removed.

In regards to forum moderators being involved in discussions; our standard practice is to exclude ourselves from being involved in any moderation related to topics we have participated in. The forum moderators are volunteers who have been chosen from the community, and we encourage moderators to continue engaging with the community and sharing their own personal opinions. Historically this approach has been understood and appreciated by the community, however given the current circumstances and the influx of new members in the community I understand that people may not have the required trust in the moderation team for this to be possible. I will be discussing with the moderation team the importance of remaining impartial and how people may perceive their participation in these controversial topics.

To me, the answer feels more like it should be "No... but they have to stop VERY soon". To me, it feels like they have been growing too fast for too long. They will need time to consolidate, then grow again when the time is right. This is just based on how I've observed the teams that I've been apart of grow over time. Obviously anecdotal, many solutions exist, etc.

Many people who are subbed to floatplane likely already know most of the issues raised by GN, Linus has been upfront about them IMO, and often talks about them on the WAN show.

Now I'm NOT condoning Linus actions, but I can understand why he got upset and spoke up, just like so many upset people rushed to voice their opinions here. He's only human for gods sake, I imagine if any other us had are character assassinated in front of millions of people we might also feel a bit piss off, irrespective of whether you think it's justified or not.

    FACT:
Words GN used to describe Linus: incompetent, misleading, unethical, irresponsible, unhinged, and had little to nothing good to say about him.

    Opinion:
I think Linus is a good guy who has tried to be open and honest, but Linus also makes mistakes and speaks his mind before he's really had the chance to process things, which we are all guilty of at times.

Taking into account the two statements above I do believe "character assassinated" is a fair description, and I can understand how this would be hurtful to someone who believed they were do the right thing, or at least was not trying to be malicious.

By the way some people described him you would have thought he had committed genocide, now I'm NOT down playing any concerns, I just think reasonable and appropriate measures should be taken, trying to sabotage the business isn't it.

I think it is short sighted and unreasonable response to start unsubbing from floatplane, why do I feel this way?

Well for starters the people most likely to get hurt by doing this are his employees, it's even possible that future job opening have already been affected, and this in turn could impact current employees chances to get promotions, raises and the opportunity to move up in the company. In fact the person least impacted by this is Linus and his family, make no mistake they are set for life.

Hi all, I haven't seen this posted yet, but Tech Deals had a live stream with relevant discussion. I'm still very early in the VOD, but one of the ideas raised was having an Editor in Chief (they also cite Dr Cutress for this idea)... Seems like a very balanced and informative discussion so far.

EDIT: I did a search for 'tech deals' - didn't flag anything, but apologies if i missed it, this thread is LONG.

EDIT2: I'm much further into the VOD now, and wow this is good. In a, very level-head, wise uncle sort of way. I don't think he has all of the info, but he seems to know enough to have useful opinions. A shame that it just won't be as popular because it doesn't promote outrage in the way that GN, LMG, many others tend to.

Personally, I'm of the mindset that I wish Steve had a call with LMG staff on this. Not that he had an obligation, but I think it would have made the video better. A section of the interview or whatever and then the ability to be like "this is what I agree with and this is what I think is BS" I think would have been great, perhaps especially as information for more casual viewers. And with the LMG answers/rebuttals as fresh record, I feel things would have come out either more explanatory or even more damning. I guess I just feel it was a missed opportunity.

Out of all the videos out there about all this, I'm most interested in Ian Cutress' video apparently getting recorded today.

It would have benefited all involved. Are you seeking truth or a side? This isn't about Linus and reaching a company for comment before publication is common practice when reporting a bombshell-style report. This had zero advantage to benefit Linus or LMG except to add genuine context of which is important.

Everyone loves drama, but drama hurts real people and affects lives.

I wouldn't call it a "fake news" but I do also take issues with this style of report from GN.

When handling the issue of major controversy, you always reached out to both side to hear their side of the story. You have the right to not believe either of the sides but as an "investigating journalist", it's your job to listen to their story and preset the completed picture to your audiences.

GN purposedly did not reach out to Asus and LTT, despite doing so with so many others when the matter of integrity is at the state. And in both times, they've made a major omission of the fact (implying that Asus was altering the warranty term to refuse claims - while it was proven to be the same term they've used since years before, mentioned that Linus auction out Billet Lab prototype which is highly important to their workflow but never mention anything about them seemingly imply that LTT can keep their prototype for "testing" purposes initially) that conveniently causing wildfire throughout the community.

Would any of these change the conclusion of their report? Maybe not, but that's the same bullshit they called Linus on for dismissing to test the Billet's Monoblock before testing it because "it wouldn't have changed the outcome"

As a journalist, reaching out is what testing is to hardware review. You better have a very good reasons, and don't miss anything for not doing so - and they didn't on both counts. I couldn't buy any of the justification they've put in the respond video.

You could argue that it the Billet Lab controversy wasn't the focus of their video and it ultimately brought a positive change to the community, but this is highly, HIGHLY unethical for you as a media outlet if done intentionally. As people who used to do reporting for a living, this makes me feel so uncomfortable.

I would like to, and still do attribute it to negligence and incompetence (after all, Steve wasn't a professional reporter), but if there's a third time I would seriously consider malice as being part of the motivation.

Alright, so this is an issue that comes up often on WAN show, has come up a lot in the recent controversies, and there is an incredible amount of...I don't really wanna say misinformation but a very ill informed view of what Union's do, can do, and actual outcomes.

I have been a union member in good standing at my job for over 15 years since the day I was eligible to join, I have been on our union's legislative action team and lobbied on behalf of my union brothers and sisters at the highest levels of government.  I believe unions are a workers most important ally in securing fair compensation, benefits, and ensuring a structured workplace relationship with management.

So with that in mind, what do unions actually do.  They advocate on behalf of labor with regards to compensation, benefits, workplace conditions, how labor and management officially interact with regards to grievances and disciplinary action, and stand as advocates for workers when those procedures are brought up to ensure that all parties involved are following what is written in the contract.

What they do not do is change how people behave, prevent things like SA/SH in the workplace, or somehow make a workplace this wonderful fun relaxing place where everyone gets all the time they could ever want to make things as perfect as it is in their dreams.  If writers at LTT feel they are being under compensated for their work on videos, a union could help with that to negotiate for increased compensation.  If they feel that they are being punished for mistakes in videos that are caused by their workload, a union could help with that by negotiating the how disciplinary action is taken for different degrees of mistakes or repeated failures.  If they feel that a grievance they have isn't being acted on fairly or that there isnt a grievance process where they could even reach out, a union could help develop that grievance process and make sure its being followed.

A Union cannot force LTT to stop making however many videos per week, they can make things actually more difficult when it comes to resolving issues between workers because almost never do they want management brought in to resolve anything.

In the past year the following things have occurred in my local:

Two 40+ year old men nearly came to blows over a perceived scheduling discrepancy
An employee manipulated brand new union members to become the union rep for the facility and then proceeded to screw them over
A woman was harassed repeatedly who had to turn to management for help because her harasser was the union rep that was supposed to be representing her
Two female trainees were given transfers out of the building due to lawsuits that alleged harassment by trainers and co workers.

That's the quick examples.  Unions aren't magic,  they don't make it so shitty people arnt shitty people.  They are extremely valuable for what they actually CAN do for employees, but dont for a second think that they can or even remotely come close to preventing the kind of stuff we are hearing may have happened.

In short it's really fucken simple and takes no time at all. A big complaint from Steve was Linus not wanted to spend a few hours to get things right then Steve in a massively hypocritical move won't spend 10min to send an email. I think just some of the specifics about the water block. I saw a lot of people saying nothing was done until after GN’s video, but in the What do we do now video, we learn that stuff was being done, but errors were made and emails weren’t send properly.

I think it was also simplified a bit, as they were originally allowed to keep it. Billet decided they wanted it back, and that arrangement was agreed to. Maybe there’s earlier stuff I’m missing, but it’s just a communication nightmare!

Just a little more info would have avoided the whole theft complaints, and allowed people to focus on the meaningful issues.

I hate that you have had to do this just because of some sanctimonious and quite frankly salty competing channel. I even hate that I have had to say competing channel and not refer to it as just another great channel in this space.

However, it is clear that GN have forced a divide in this space, and dropped a massively unhealthy amount of toxicity into what was one of the most loved and light-hearted genres on YouTube, I hope that in time GN will also take responsibility for level of damage and negativity they have cause by this.

I truly believe that there was a huge amount of hyperbole used in SaltySteve's call to arms speech, whilst yes there were some issues that needed to be addressed they could have been brought to light in a much less damaging way.

All in all the only issue that LMG have had is their dedication to releasing way too many videos per week and that does indeed lead to a slippage in quality, but remember that it is US, THE COMMUNITY that have demanded that.

LTT / LMG have never backed down and buried their head when issues arise and so I believe that they should be commended for that.

@LinusTech PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't loose your charm and somewhat haphazard programming as that is what makes you guys you, god forbid you become monotonous robotic fact spitters like SOME channels I know.

First of all, I'm not trying to undermine valid criticism presented by Gamers Nexus and others on this forum. LTT and, more importantly, Linus himself made quite a share of mistakes, you most certainly already seen them listed in this thread, but I want to touch on a different aspect of this story - more personal and understanding.

Well... I kind of understand where Linus is coming from in his initial reaction, especially emotionally. After watching the GN's video, I was left with a sour aftertaste. I'm not questioning any raised issues in it. But I want to challenge the way they were presented - with funny zoom-in and outs on Linus' face, without any comment from the LTT team, and insinuation about LTT purposely stealing Billet Labs' prototype, even though it was clearly a fuck up, albeit a serious one. In my opinion, this video will have a positive effect on LTT and I'm glad it was made, but I also think it could've been more constructive, the same way as Linus could've had a better reaction to it.

This is the part where I want to give some words of support to @LinusTech

I'm sure you've already seen people taking your words and stances out of context, captioning them as something entirely else, and gaining more upvotes/karma/support than pushback. I can only imagine how disheartening and/or infuriating it must be. Although this must be a common occurrence for you now, it doesn't mean it will suck less or be less unfair. I trust you and LTT to set a correct path forward and absorb all the constructive criticism you received. After all, I understand what you mean by "trust me, bro" and how this situation will be handled in the end will only reinforce that.

I know a post like this might seem weird from an account that was just created, but that's just how it is. I've watched LTT since I was a kid, and this is the first time I wanted to write something on this forum. Hope to be not the last one.

There's probably some truth and some embellishment. People get wronged and when they try to right those wrongs they exaggerate the situation for a more desirable outcome. "Because my shipment was delayed I had to stay home and miss a funeral - how are you going to make this right?!" While true, it's likely they never wanted to go to the funeral in the first place. So keep that in mind when reading any complaint - it's probably true but there are also some things stretched out, left out, and misrepresented.

Assuming she really cut herself to get time off, it clearly demonstrates she has some deeper rooted issues. Having issues does NOT mean she's a liar, only that her perception of the world and its events are skewed. I think her biggest mistake in coming out, was that statement. It shows 1 - nobody at the office was going to give her shit for needing medical treatment (she said it was the only way to not get "told off" much like with Linus' assistant who had his wisdom teeth removed without any complaints). 2 - Shows that she's mentally unstable.. between the public opinion and very likely in a court of law, will be used against her. While I think if she's been wronged she should definitely speak out about it, I worry in her current mental state whether or not she can handle it. She would probably have a total meltdown if she read some of the shit in this thread.

And that's what I mean by she could be telling the truth but not the whole truth. She's proven LMG would give you space and time for medical treatment but painted the picture black with self-harm and that the sick-time she did request prior was used against her. She didn't elaborate as what the "told off" meant but clearly she wasn't taking sick time for medical emergencies. It's easy to speculate and go down that rabbit hole - but clearly there's more to the story.

Before rushing to attack her or LMG, maybe wait for more information? Understand she's hurt and is trying to tell her story - even if she's not telling the whole story it's important to listen for the bits that may be accurate.
