I love those old cases. My 7 year old has my old Game Axe steel case and she won't let go of it for anything. She calls it her "bad kitty". I eventually had to drop a Z97 into it for her and she's quite pleased with the speed and ease of usb 3.0 changing out from an old LGA 775 board presented a few challenges but nothing worth sweating over. She totally loves the modding and more importantly gets to keep her "bad kitty".  Seems all my daughters like the retro look and love towers. The legacy continues!

Because I wanted to point out that this chip did not really have much advantage over a 6850K and that for my purposes if it did not surpass it in 4 specific areas I wasn't interested. This seemed to generate a considerable amount of hostility resulting in the original poster resorting to ad hominems and other behaviour frequently typified by manufacturer fan boys. (Even though I didn't call anyone here by that label saving myself.) You would likely have to do some scrolling to get the full story. Have fun

That's not what would happen during their testing.  The 6900k, like all other Intel CPUs with turbo, scales down clock speed as core utilization increases.  A 6900k under full load with all cores firing will run at 3.4 GHz in it's stock configuration.  AMD just wanted everyone to stay focused on the fact that turbo was left on so that they assumed that it had an advantage of a higher clock speed, which it didn't.

I'm not saying one is better than the other, simply stating that they were essentially run at the same clock speed.  Interestingly enough, AMD did decide to run the 6900k in dual channel memory configuration as apposed to its native quad core configuration.  I imagine that since the Ryzen chip is limited to dual channel, they felt that this was a more fair comparison.

In the end, all that matters is what we see when 3rd parties get a hold of the Ryzen chip.  Even if it doesn't end up truly matching the 6900k, if it's close and cheap, it could still work out nicely for AMD.

It would be good to see AMD back in the game and giving Intel some real competition for a change.

Yes PCI lanes. Intel has increased their offerings. I wonder if amd has been paying attention or are they still trying to compete with broadwell

im pretty sure its down asus because they are the ones that created the OC Socket which was "reverse engineered" the standard x99 intel socket for better overclocking for lower volts and such things and then every other vendor EVGA, Gigabyte, Asrock and so on copied asus or should i say tried to copy

Well, here is one of my old builds with a 3930k and an x79 extreme9 motherboard,

Note how the motherboard text is upside down to the cpu

Pretty certain my current build with an ROG IV Gene motherboard was the same way

You're fine.  It's not so much that the writing is upside down, but that the socket was installed by the motherboard manufacturer upside down.

It isn't like people will notice that it is upside down it will have a big metal cooler blocking you from seeing the wrinting on it anyways.

So long as you didn't have to force the CPU in and all the pins appear striaght then it should work fine. Just dumb Mobo manufacturers on top of Intel getting cocky

Well it's the CPU makers fault. They just stamped it in the "wrong" orientation. It doesn't matter it's just some text that does nothing but tell you what CPU it is

If it fits and boots up, then its probably fine. There is probably a reason for Asus to put the socket upside down

If it matches, it matches. Define UPSIDE down. It maybe upside down in a Standrad Atx case, but that doesn't mean it's upside down.

If it works then you're fine.  Sometimes they probably print the label on the CPU wrong or the motherboard is just weird.
