I want to fuck around with hardware from time to time and I'm not gonna do that on Meep (my beautiful main build i5, 780, etc) so why not do this.

And i'm talking specifically about Windows 10. There's already W10 Home, W10 Enterprise, and W10 Pro. Don't you think MS should make a Windows 10 Gaming edition or just Windows Gaming Edition?

And maybe it should have more GPU drivers, support for 2+ TB drives and automatic pooling (storage). And also some changes to the GUI and maybe some additional built-in apps like a universal RGB LED controller would be there. And most importantly, AN FPS COUNTER IN ALL GAMES.

Idk why i thought of this, it just popped into my mind.

Got it. Let's turn the price way down without losing any performance at all.
This build has better monitors because as a video editor you want good color accuracy. The BenQ is a professional monitor that received the Editor's Choice at tomshardware.com and the ASUS are good ole 1440p 144Hz.
Changed the CPU to just about the best you can get that's reasonable (overclock it)
Oh and these 1080s are yellow

Project AZISAI: Kaby Lake mATX Custom Water Cooled Build

    Hello LTT Forum!

So I built my first desktop back in 2011, and that trusty 2600K/560-Ti rig has served me well through all of my five years of college and then some (though I admittedly haven't done much PC gaming in the past year or so).  But now that I've achieved independent adult status and am making a decent salary, it's about time I finally step it up and build myself a high-end machine.  I want it to seamlessly run modern titles at 2560x1440 with high refresh rates and be sexy and silent while doing it, so I'm going with the top-of-the-line hardware, custom water cooling, and a color-neutral theme with RGB lighting everywhere!

I'll be doing this build in parts, just because I won't have all the money at once.  Here are the components lists, with the stuff that's arrived or that I'm carrying over from my current PC in green:

    Part 1: Tower
    CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock 3 (until water cooling happens)
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z270G Gaming
    Memory: 32GB (4x8GB) G.Skill TridentZ RGB DDR4-3200
    Storage (OS): Samsung 950 Pro 256GB M.2
Storage (Data): Samsung 850 Evo 1TB
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW
Chassis: Cooler Master MasterCase Pro 3 (w/ Tempered Glass side panel)
    PSU: Corsair AX860i
PSU Cables: CableMod ModFlex Sleeved Cables (white)
120mm Fans: 4x Noctua NF-F12 LinusTechTips Special Edition (w/ white Noctua Chromax accents)
140mm Fans: 1x Noctua NF-A14 LinusTechTips Special Edition (w/ white Noctua Chromax accents)
Lighting: CableMod WideBeam Magnetic RGB Strips

    Part 2: Peripherals
    Monitor: Dell S2716DGR
Keyboard: Corsair K95 RGB Platinum (Cherry MX Brown)
    Mouse: Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum

    Part 3: Water Cooling
CPU Block: EK Supremacy EVO (Full Nickel)
GPU Block: EK FC1080 GTX FTW (Acetal+Nickel, Nickel Backplate)
    Pump/Reservoir: EK RES X3 140 Revo D5 PWM
    Fittings: EK ACF (Black Nickel)
Radiators: 2x EK CoolStream SE 240
Tubing: EK DuraClear 3/8" ID 5/8" OD
    Coolant: EK Ekoolant Pastel White

I'm glad I stocked up on the beautiful Linus edition Noctuas back in April.  Finally they'll be put to good use!

So as soon as the Kaby Lake Desktop parts hit, I'll be placing my orders for the tower.  CES can't come soon enough!

    Stay tuned for updates!

NZXT has a bit larger of an eco-system when it comes to RGB. They have led strips, aios and case fans. Their stuff is quite expensive though and part of it is only available in the us atm.

Wazfoodle reacted to faziten in Calculations GFLOPS AMD vs Nvidia (OpenCl CUDA)
Let's start with basics: FLOP = Floating point operation per second.
so, in your mini chart 480 and 1070 can do the same amount of FLOPS (5.800.000.000.000). This number is an average (the "per second" part is key ) of instructions in a period of time (one second). So, they should perform the same, right?.
    Well... no.

Imagine i give you a pencil and a white paper. (Im assuming you are bad at drawing, so bare with me).
Then i give the same brand and model of paper and pencil to a car designer with awesome drawing skills.
Now i say: Draw a car in 10 minutes.

Will you end with the same result even with same materials and amount of pencil traces to use in a particular time?
    Unlikely.
Not because he could move the pencil faster, nor because he had more pencil traces than you, just because you two will use different algorithms to do the same task: aka drawing a car in the same amount of time.

Different workloads require different optimizations hardware level (micro architecture) so even if they have the same compute power, their DX11 performance is miles away different.
There isn't a silver bullet in synthetic benchmarks that can tell you how something will perform across every workflow. Most of the time, it's software optimization that decides who wins.

    Cheers!

So I've almost got the pc part of the case done! I still have a lot to do until the finished product but as a proof of concept the briefcase system has been a success. The system booted up properly and after running heaven for a few hours, the cpu is at 40c at idle and 60c under full load while the gpu is only 30c idle and 65c -70c under load.

The top panel is not screwed on because it is a hassle to mess with and I was doing some testing with temperatures. The GPU is also just kind of thrown in as I still do not have the final card that will be staying in the system. Otherwise though, everything is secure and ready to go.

I had to do a lot of sanding and I bolted some supports for the top panel in the case.

I also added a hole for the bottom intake and gpu.

With the components mounted and wiring done inside:

The top panel has a hole for the cpu cooler and two noctua nf f12s. All of the fans except the cpu cooler are grilled and filtered.

So now all that's left is the monitor, some aluminum shields to clean up the i/o, an actual power button, some carbon fiber vinyl wrap on the top panel, and hinge angle adjustment for the top half of the case. Really happy how it has turned out so far. Hopefully I will have an update nearing the final product next weekend. Thanks for viewing!

Many parts I need will still not be arriving until tonight or tomorrow so I figured I would post a small update of where the project is at now. I hacked up some old case parts for the motherboard and psu mount so they can now be securely mounted in the case. I also got the mounting board done and bolted to the case. Once I have the other fans, filters, grills, display port and hdmi extensions, and pci extension, I should be able to complete the whole bottom section of the case by the end of my break from school. After that, I can begin working on the screen.

    The case so far

    With components

Luckily there is just enough clearance for the top panel above the cpu cooler so all has gone to plan so far. I hope to have more exciting updates this weekend.

I have the choice between two liquid cooling loops at the moment and the two option only differ in the Reservoir type. One is an ion Reservoir and the other is a Tube Pump combo Reservoir. Which one would be better? Also the pump will be a D5 pump on the tube. So also just to clarify I know nothing about watercooling I just want to build my first loop and it's either one of these or a cheap 100$ loop that is mounted outside of the case.

If there is an SSD already in the system, the manufacturer would install the OS on it. So if you add another SSD, it would just be empty. I wouldn't know how worth can it be if you add another SSD, because it all depends on your use-case.

The 850 EVO is a SATA 3 SSD, the 600P is a PCIe NVMe SSD, both offer different speeds and use different standards, but use the same connector.

Depends. I would say if you don't use the extra features in the Pro edition, the Home would suffice.
    Not really sure

If just for games, it would be sufficient.

Not really sure about this one, some say the Killer ones are shit, some say the Intel ones perform worse, and I don't know which is true, but my Killer 1525 AC has never failed me, so I think it's all about personal preference?????

Hi there! I thought I'd share my experience building a system into the very popular and good looking S340 Elite from NZXT.

    First, the parts list:

CPU: Intel i5 6600k GPU: Asus Dual OC GTX 1070 MB: MSI Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon RAM: 2x 8GB Corsair Vengeance LED 2666MHz Storage: 120GB Kingston M.2 SSD (OS) + OCZ Agility 3 120GB SSD + 3x 500GB 3.5" HDD (Everything but the M.2 came from my last PC) Cooler: Corsair H45 AIO PSU: Akasa Cobra 650w 80+ Bronze Semi Modular (Discontinued, got it from my last PC) Chassis: NZXT S340 Elite (Black) Lighting: NZXT Hue+
Overall I absolutely loved building into the S340 Elite. The build quality is top-notch, the cable management is great (though a little more room between the chassis and right-hand side panel would have been welcome)
The components themselves are awesome, I've not had a machine this up-to-date in my life.

    The Case

    Pros:

Awesome build quality. Great cable management. Beautiful tempered glass side panel. PSU shroud. Thingie to hang my Oculus Rift on.
    Cons:

That cable management bar, while awesome, seriously inhibits how you install AIO coolers. Especially if you want push/pull. You'll notice my rad is horizontal in order to accommodate for the bar. The matte finish is lovely, but very prone to scratches (you'll notice this around the front I/O where you fumble your USB devices into it) No tool-less installation for 3.5" HDDs. The one thing that gives away the low price of the case is this. HDMI pass-through straight up doesn't work when I try to use my Rift in it.
Tip: Get rid of that molex fan-splitter for the included fans. They're super loud when running at full speed. Just plug them into your board.

    Lighting:

The NZXT Hue+ system is great. The Cam software was a bit of a pain to set up (it doesn't like other monitoring software very much) but once those issues were sorted the level of functionality in that little box had me amazed. There is no RGB lighting system elsewhere of this quality. At least not to my knowledge.

    Overclocking:

I managed to get the i5 6600k from 3.5GHz to 4.6GHz with a maximum temperature of 65°C. Either I won the silicon lottery or these chips are wonderful little overclockers.
The Asus Dual OC GTX 1070 was the cheapest 1070 on the market at the time yet I managed to get a stable 2114MHz out of it at a maximum temperature of 73°C (Stock boost clock is 1772MHz)

    Day to Day Use

I regularly play games in VR for several hours at a time with absolutely no issues with performance whatsoever. Graphics are juiced up to "VR Ultra" in Elite dangerous and it's beautiful. Outside of VR I play modern games (Doom, The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Ark: Survival Evolved) again with FPS to spare at 1920x1200.

    Left to Do

All that remains now is to wait on my sleeved Gelid 24 pin, PCI and 8 pin power cables to hide that ugly shiny black.

Yes it has the desktop 6700K. The GTX 1070 in that should be around I'd say about 80-90% the performance of the full-sized desktop GTX 1070.

If you have the money and don't mind the extra heft, I would say go for the NP9872. You can still upgrade this one down the road if you so desire as the GPU and CPU are both socketed and can be changed out. And you also get a desktop CPU with this one, much much more powerful than the 6700HQ in the other one. But if you actually need mobility, I would say go for one of the 15 inch models, as they are easier to carry around.
