RetroPie Gaming Console build log

So my dad wants an NES Classic for Christmas, but those are out of stock everywhere. So I decided I'd build one for him!

Parts list:

  • RetroPie OS
  • Raspberry Pi 3 model B Kit
  • Sandisk Ultra 16GB Micro SD card
  • Logitech F310 Gamepad

I'll update this when I get the parts, which should be soon.

Parts list:

  • RetroPie OS
  • Raspberry Pi 3 model B
  • Official Raspberry Pi 3 case
  • Sandisk Ultra 16GB Micro SD card
  • Buffalo Classic USB gamepad (known to be supported by RetroPie)

I'll update this when I get the parts, which should be soon.

I am planning on doing something similar.

What I want to do though: There are files for 3d-printers out there to print a miniNES-case  for a RaspberryPi. Here in Germany you can just go online on a network of people with 3d-printers, send them a file, pay a little bit of money for the ressources and you are good.

Great idea for a present though!

I did the same project awhile ago, even integrating Moonlight software so I could stream Steam games from my PC directly out of Retropie, even when at someone else's house. Good luck on your project!

You sir are followed. I am very interested in how this turns out, I would love to be able to create something similar to give my wife the ability to play old Mario type games, and selfishly for myself to play Final Fantasy and Zelda, plus all the other great RPG's from that time, God I miss Dragon Warrior.

Are you installing it on top of an existing OS if so which one and why?  Just curious I have VERY limited experience with these, and want to understand everything before I start ordering,

I'm using RetroPie, it's a Linux based OS with an easy to use GUI.

https://retropie.org.uk/

EDIT: It's made specifically for emulating retro games and supports a variety of consoles

I'm doing a similar thing but modding my own case out of an old mint tin in the shape of a snes controller. Using a Pi zero and a USB hub I plan to solder to the test pads on the back of the pie to give me 3 extra usb hubs and an ethernet port.
