tyrz_939 got a reaction from FloRolf in ULTIMATE Workstation build
What? Unless you need the features of a Xeon it's the same.
The way I see it is having 2 quad cores gives more failure points than a single 8 core i7/Xeon, wastes power and costs more.

Don't run background processes that use CPU time? Keep control of what your computer is doing yourself.

A solid list. However, I disagree with point 9 and I don't quite understand point 10.

tyrz_939 got a reaction from Fatelinha in What antivirus are you guys using?
I use common sense 2015 edition service pack 0, 100% success rate, many win. Last virus i had was in 2009, AVG decided to think every .exe file on my computer was a virus therefor breaking my OS and all programs. Never again will I use anything.

Gaming wise, your better off building an i5 system now and another around the same price in ~4 years instead of building 1 expensive one now. My 2500K is still going strong after 4 years, no reason a 4690K wouldn't be as good 4 years from now, they cost almost 50% more than the 2500K did after all, lol.

If you are doing a lot of VM based learning then VMWare Workstation might be worth getting. As for free options, Hyper-V is good on windows and KVM is even better on Linux in my experience. VirtualBox can be great for some but it feels cheap and slow after using the others.

I leave it on the SSD, I don't use it anyway.

In a minimal "backup" setup for me the computer that's being backed up can't write or delete backup files to a backup server, the backup server pulls the files from the computer itself and runs a different OS (BSD/Linux) so that if it gets nuked by "viruses" nothing bad can happen and you can just revert to an older set of your files. I came up with those rules when I started taking more family photos anyway. I still need to put protection against bit rot in my definition of backup. I'm just saying this to give you ideas to protect yourself in future, if I lost my data I would be willing to pay thousands to recover it if I had no choice but I don't think it's possible to lose (at least I hope not!).

http://processhacker.sourceforge.net/downloads.phpYou could try using something like this to look?
If that doesn't work I have no idea. Reinstall Java (making sure it's 64bit) and/or Minecraft maybe? GL

I wouldn't touch ZFS without ECC ram, sure it'll probably be fine but is "probably" good enough for your data? It's up to you.
Read this if you want:

Remember this with ZFS if you have non ECC ram that goes bad without you noticing "Backups will also be destroyed because the original data itself is damaged."

This isn't anything fancy, just what I use daily for getting everything done! Having a quiet, reliable computer is most important to me. I will be needing a full upgrade probably next year some time.
Pics are from my phone, sorry if quality isn't the greatest!

I still have my DFI LanParty NF4 Ultra-D, it works like new too and is dead silent since the chip set fan died in 2009. I have all the cables it came with here somewhere and it's box is still on display on my shelf!
Can't wait to see how this turns out! GL
