"workstation" doesnt mean anything. at all.

1. Bit coin mining is dead, deal with it. period.

2. Why would you want two 4core CPUs? Why would you want this overprices motherboard? Why would you want the coolers?

Thats all BS.

4. 1600w PSU? For what?

Here's what i would do:

1. Consumer Grade but professional CPU, i7 5960x $1000

2. Consumer grade 2011-3 motherboard $250

3. a quad 32gb ram kit. more than enough. $250

4. 2x 980ti if you feel like it although you probably won't need them, a single one will do. $650 or $1300

5. a 850 watt PSU for sli 980ti. $150

-> Profit because much cheaper.

Is that thing running 24/7? If so, oh yeah, the i7 will still do. But you can buy an 8core xeon for double the price if you want.

Because quad channel doesnt work that way and the motherboard i selected still has 4 slots free so you could go 64gb.

What? Unless you need the features of a Xeon it's the same.

The way I see it is having 2 quad cores gives more failure points than a single 8 core i7/Xeon, wastes power and costs more.

Problem is is that an 8 core xenon has a 1.6 base clock rate i prefer using a little more wattage

It's not Xenon, it's Xeon. You can get high clocked ones. What features do you want on the Xeon that the i7 doesn't have?

I can hyperthread for cheaper, have more L3 cache, have access to ECC ram.
