soldier_ph reacted to StDragon in Top Secret NATO and US Intelligence Was Originally Leaked Via Discord. :/
No doubt the US has a lot of spies, double-agents, and genuine angry anti-Americans that just want to watch the US and the world at large burn 🔥.
IMHO, it's only going to get worse before it gets better, and there's nothing that can be done about it at this point. Too many moles in industry and institutions.
My biggest concern is everyone freaking out without some clear level-headed thinking and immediately pull the totalitarian handle as a means to stop this exfiltration.

soldier_ph reacted to Uttamattamakin in Top Secret NATO and US Intelligence Was Originally Leaked Via Discord. :/
Summary
The NATO documents which made non tech news earlier last week have been released to have been leaked and first posted online via a DISCORD SERVER and then appeared on 4Chan. This relates to the RESTRICT act which seeks to ban apps that present a security risk. The one thing the policy makers who get a say on banning such apps will know about Discord is that it was used to do this. This might seem absurd to a lot of the audience here but consider the average age of US congress is the third highest since 1789.

My thoughts
Remember my thoughts are just IMHO.
While sure these things could've been posted anywhere it is interesting that Discord, a property of Tencent, the owner of TikTok is where this leaked. One of the very services that is a subject of the RESTRICT ACT
I think we can kiss Discord goodbye at this point. Again, I know this could've been posted anywhere but it wasn't. No matter what the back story of this was, now the story in government circles, and policy making circles, will be that Discord is a channel that was used to disseminate classified information. The ONE thing many of the people who will get to vote on the RESTRICT act will know about Discord is this story. (https://www.nbcnews.com/data-graphics/118th-congress-age-third-oldest-1789-rcna64117) Lots of hip older people know about and LOVE tech. They were the generation that used the Apple 2 and the first Macs and such as adults when they came out. At the same time they are the generation that can get scammed by "Microsoft support".
That is why I am thinking we can now bank or some form of the RESTRICT act being passed and it being very restrictive indeed. As so goes the US so will go Nato allied countries... in many such things. As precedence for that I cite the bans of Huawei hardware in the US and allied countries with which we share intelligence.
This means a real open source, not owned by or financed by anyone, decentralized, no hosted by anyone app will need to replace Discord.
As for the intel...
I have no real opinion but instead will share a couple of revealing clips from a really cool movie. The modern classic "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" 2011. (IF you played Cyberpunk 2077 one of the missions you go on refers to this movie and the books https://www.ign.com/wikis/cyberpunk-2077/Fixer,_Merc,_Soldier,_Spy).
This movie is from 2011 so Spoilers if you might want to watch a really good realistic spy movie set just before computers would change everything. The basics still apply though.
The question about these things is ... is the information real golddust or just some chicken feed and sawdust (false intelligence meant to mislead you. )

My new PC Build and my new PEET 3d printer I just brought for prototyping some of my Provisional Patents.
This system is not for gaming... I have not been a gamer for years as I spend my time inventing stuff now, I need this system for large CAD files, due to my alienware i7 6 core 12 therad with two main gpus 1060 and 2060 on alienware graphics amp with 32 gig ram laptop is not able to handle the CAD files anymore, so it was time to upgrade, but I still love gaming computers and keeping up with the tech😉

Bit of a long one this..
Finally got all the bits to upgrade my little iTX rig XD
Cooler:
CPU:
GPU (on second time of trying due to faulty fan):
New Riser:
and Mini DP/DP leads for various things:
Also found one of these on ebay. I'm gonna use it to secure the back of the A2000 so there's no risk of it moving and shorting on the PSU bracket:
Had a think about that then for a while and ordered another three from Ali Express to mount a clear perspex sheet to the back of the rig:
And the monster PSU to power it all!!!!
Also no pic for last bit but a SN850 1TB i bought off'f my cousin for 50 quid

Since my old man is in hospital & will be there for a while after some major surgery that saved his life. I got him a new TV for his room for when he comes home. He was rocking my old (10 years old) TCL 32 inch HD TV. I saw there was a 32 inch Sony on sale for almost $200 off, so I grabbed that for him. It's an Android TV, but I got him an Apple TV a few years ago that he uses for YouTube, Kayo (subscription to live sports) & free to air TV. It's actually got quite a good image even if it is only 720P, great colours as well. Will probably get him a small soundbar of some sort as well, because well, TV speakers suck & are way too tinny.

I just bought a Thinkpad P52 to replace my ThinkPad P50.
I decided it was time to actually get a Windows 11 compliant PC as my P50 was starting to reach it's limit. I'm not a PC gamer, so I'm not looking to get the latest and greatest. All I need is a computer that allows me to do the basic tasks I want to do (browse the net, manage my music and ebooks, watch movies, etc).
It's got the following specs:
* 2.6ghz Intel 8th gen i7-8850H
* 32GB DDR4 RAM
* 1TB Western Digital SN750 Black SSD
* 1TB Western Digital SN750 Black SSD
* 2TB Seagate Barracuda HDD
* Nvidia Quadro P1000
* Intel Graphics 630
Overall, I'm super happy with this computer. It's running Windows 11 great and does everything that I want it to do.

It's not like they wouldn't already have your address if the Person who drives the Tesla also bought it for themselves. But yes this is very much concerning. I just hate the fact that alot of electric cars in someway have to have IoT features aka be connected to the Internet and have weird Software bugs which might even be able to kill you. I once used to be a fan of their Cars but I wouldn't ever buy one now. I just want an electric Car with no Bullsh*t because I really enjoy how cool and efficient electric Motors are.

soldier_ph reacted to Salv8 (sam) in Microsoft bans emulators from the xbox store front citing Nintendo as a reason.
Summary
no more snes emulation for your xbox! Microsoft has decided to ban any and all emulators from the xbox store front. while i haven't been able to confirm that this also extends to other emulators that aren't related to Nintendo themselves, i'd say this also would include them as well. UPDATE: other emulators non-Nintendo are affected as well
as for why Nintendo is included, a friend of Alyanna McKenna's over at the Xbox QA team named Nintendo as a legal issue:
Quotes
(no-a emulation for-a you!)
My thoughts
i'd say Nintendo is trying to crack down on easier ways to emulate their games by any "legal" means necessary. while they can't outright go after emulators themselves (thanks Bleem!), this would probably be the closest they can get. (i'd say Nintendo may try again with the play store next but I'm speculating)
Potential WAN show questions (for the mr techtips man and lukie luu)
1. do you think that this might be a new strategy that companies will use to try and stop emulation for the average joe?
2. do you personally think this could be effective to try and stop people from using emulators? (if so please do explain why you think so)

soldier_ph reacted to sounds in Comcast Forcing "Auto-Join" Wifi Networks
Summary
"Managed Wifi" has been a SIM and eSIM feature for a few years now on iPhones and iPads, but no cell carrier was as "customer friendly" as Comcast Xfinity, who has started auto-enabling and auto-re-enabling their wifi networks when you turn off "auto join."
This becomes a problem if your neighbor's wifi is just close enough to get 1 bar, so your phone drops off 4G/5G and your internet speed basically dies.
Quotes
My thoughts
Comcast Xfinity will keep doing this until enough of their customers know this is going on, and rake them over the coals. This was originally meant to be used in very exceptional cases like at a major sporting event where the cell network collapses because of the density of cell phones.

It's designed to be able to be turned off, Comcast Xfinity has hacked around this though: https://9to5mac.com/2023/04/05/turn-off-iphone-wifi-auto-join-public-networks/

This one I can understand why people are upset, they didn't think this would happen. What I dont understand is people willing putting internet connected cameras all over the outside and inside of their houses.
We've seen enough "leaks" where people have been able to access cameras because of an ""oversight"", it's certainly made me never want any iot devices.

Oh the Irony between the Restrict Act / TikTok ban attempt and this... The jokes writes themselves.
I'm not even surprised. When something is always connected, it's because it is always spying. But I'm sure daddy Elon will try to gaslight everybody and either not acknowledge this at all, or pretend it wasn't that bad.

Time to do a Tesla swap on a normal car . They lock you out of their systems and chargers after you mess with the hardware anyways, so you just get the chonker battery cell setup and powerful motors, and none of the Tesla brand BS.
