Erkel reacted to ElZamo92 in Linus a shill?
the was thing is that LMG NEEDS Linus to be a shill for it to work the way it does. YouTube Adsense and Floatplane are a very small portion of their income. Most of their money comes from sponsors, which not only give them loads of money, but also free stuff, from bags of beef jerky to $10,000 USD CPUs. If they want to keep the money coming in to pay for everything they do, they will do their best efforts to keep these sponsors happy (specially the big wads of cash like Intel and Nvidia).

Erkel got a reaction from leadeater in Backup-Software for ESXi 6.0 free
Have spent the last couple of years looking for something as an alternative to ghettovcb with mksbackup and gave up and just using Veeam NFR licence with esxi essentials.
https://github.com/lamw/ghettoVCB
http://www.magikmon.com/mksbackup/
The problem with ghetto vcb is that the backups are full disk images, so very space inefficient.

A little constructive criticism goes a long way, but when plugging click-bait snakeoil non-sense.
Why would a journalist/creator bother putting any criticism right?
Sensationalization is what makes $$

Erkel got a reaction from leadeater in Superfast SSD RAID
I think you miss understand how the DB world works.
If you are hitting disk it is broken.
You should be reading out of RAM and writing to NVRAM on the disk subsystem.
What is your read to write ratio.
basically just size your ram so the database (the active bits) fit into RAM.

Erkel got a reaction from Jurrunio in What are the scariest tech-related things you've ever experienced?
The ongoing disaster that was decided to go with intel SSD's. Have a few million dollars worth of industrial electronics manufacturing equipment that I look after and experiencing ~20% failure rate. This week swapping out 5 intel SSD's that are failing.
If you have an SSD I would recommend checking it with something like HD sentinel. Intel 535 and 540 series.

I use Panasonic, have about 150 deployed with out issues, you can get them in 5 or 10 year life span variants. keep them cool if you want them to last.

Rule #1, never copy Linus. Entertainment usually doesn't co-exist with practical and best for purpose solutions, that's what LTT videos mostly are and it's even more the case for the server stuff they show.
Just buy mid teir desktops with GPUs, it'll cost out not much more if at all.

There is nothing wrong with your GPU. I think I can find out why and how this is happening.
TechyBen Foo away! Google Foo away! [Connects to a billion webpages and throws out a solution!]
You have a powered HDMI splitter/extender and/or your Monitor is feeding back 5v over the cable, powering just the fans on the GPU. To prove/confirm this, Disconnect the HDMI cable/power/monitor. Then power down, disconnect from the plug, and see if PC still runs.
If the PC still runs, give it to NASA, and they can power the world off it.

Erkel got a reaction from 8uhbbhu8 in Combined server + render farm build for small architecture firm
Figure out what your actual requirements are, then go a tier 1 vendor, ie Dell, HP and have a cry about the cost. Stick with Intel, as per Linus's comments on the last WAN show regarding the workstations, he went at the end of the product cycle, to get something that had all the bugs worked out.
Leave the playing to your home rig, Go with stuff that is been tried and tested in a business environment.

1 x Decent spec windows workstation box
1 x low spec linux server, maybe an old server for $200-300, Dell R610/R710 etc Add disks are required for your NAS. or buy a seperate NAS if you want it to be easy to use another $200-300, then add drives.
