Sources for UPS batteries? (Rack Mount UPS)

Anyone have a good source for ordering UPS batteries? The battery I am looking for is a Yuasa NPW45-12 or something equivalent. The UPS I have takes quite a few of them... any help appreciated!

UPS batteries are normal Lead acid batteries.. Just match the Voltge and Amphere hour from an existing one. I bet yuou could even pick up some from walmart :)

Usually they are deep cycle lead acid.

Panasonic make a lot of different UPS designed batteries.

Oh see? Even i learned something new! Woho! Thanks for the information! :)

There's actually not a big difference between a deep cycle and one that isn't. One has thicker plates and the other has larger surface area plates to give higher peak current output. Usually safe to use either on a small UPS that doesn't actually discharge that often, not so safe when there is 1-3 tons of batteries next to each other waiting to burst in to flames if given the chance xD. There was a company here locally that replaced their UPS batteries recently and they didn't get the right ones certified for the UPS, it ended up in a fire and trashed everything.

Starter batteries have high CCA and low RC, deep cycle have low CCA and high RC (about 3 times more).

Thank you for the replies

I don't really mind replacing the battery with non Yuasa... I am not looking to cheap out on batteries or anything ... It just seems to be difficult to locate a good source for alternatives.

So expert power and panasonic...Looks like the Amazon choice is on backorder. I'll have to call up digikey on tuesday to see how much shipping 18 batteries would be.

Have a look also at distributors of electronic components. They may not be the cheapest but the should have higher quality models from good brands (basically batteries that you know are genuine from these brands) , whereas stuff on Amazon or various other stores may be fake.

If you're in US / Canada

Digikey : https://www.digikey.com/short/jh3958

Newark  (use ca.newark.com for Canada , farnell.com in Europe , same company) :  http://www.newark.com/w/c/batteries-chargers/batteries-rechargeable?battery-voltage=12v&battery-technology=lead-acid&range=inc-in-stock&sort=P_PRICE

Mouser: https://www2.mouser.com/Power/Batteries/Sealed-Lead-Acid-Battery/_/N-96604?P=1z0y70fZ1z0wd8nZ1y9envnZ1z0wc6u&Ns=Pricing|0

RS-components (alliedelec in US) : https://www.alliedelec.com/batteries/battery-packs/?n8489=Lead Acid&pg=1&mpp=20&sort=price_retailasc

These sites also link to datasheets for the models so you can read the specifications and figure out what type of lead acid battery that series is. Note that on some sites (for example newark/farnell is guilty of this) they may use a generic image or same image for all models in a series, so image may not be perfectly accurate - basically don't reject some product just by looking at picture, double check with datasheet if the price and specs seem right for you.

Do you need deep discharge batteries? It would depend on the UPS.  Some UPSes have protections and will stop discharging the batteries before they reach the lowest point, some will discharge batteries significantly below the lowest safe point, which could damage the batteries.

There's a variety of lead acid batteries called lead crystal or something like that, which are very hard to damage by very low voltage, basically unlike regular lead acid batteries they don't get damaged if you discharge them completely lots of times, whereas regular lead acid batteries will be damaged quite quickly.

RS-Components stocks a few of these (and a lot of other models and types of lead acid batteries) on their EU sites, the link above of their US site is kind of basic... here's what they have in UK : https://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/batteries/rechargeable-batteries/lead-acid-rechargeable-batteries/

These are the lead crystal ones: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/batteries/rechargeable-batteries/lead-acid-rechargeable-batteries/?applied-dimensions=4293570092

I don't think I need a deep discharge battery but I'm not completely sure. I can set a threshold on the UPS so it will shut down. I was looking at digikey as they carried the Panasonic batteries @leadeater suggested. I know those are pretty good batteries and I can get a slight discount if I order all 18.

I have a Dell 1920R with a 72V EBM. The batteries are from 2012 so they're not exactly new... I may have jumped the gun though because when I recently updated the firmware I reset to factory defaults and forgot to set the EBM switch to 1 so the display was only showing ETR of the internal battery. At least I'll have more time to shop around for batteries now.

I use Panasonic, have about 150 deployed with out issues, you can get them in 5 or 10 year life span variants.  keep them cool if you want them to last.

LC-R127R2P1 and LC-P127R2P1
