if the SSD is m.2 get the SSD one and add your own 2.5inch hard drive
if the SSD is 2.5inch, get the SSHD and add your own m.2 SSD

SSD, if you need tons of games I'd put them on an external HDD/SSD.

Do you see yourself using that much space? does it have other drive slots?

8GB RAM - I don't care how much better the 850M is, 4GB is a pain to use nowadays. The Y40 also has a better keyboard and higher res monitor for work.

   For all items you quote above, with the exception of gaming, you can do with a chromebook, or ultrabook laptop.  You don't need a quad core for compilation of code; your compiler and optimizer (if you use older C base) is going to execute single threaded anyhow, and you're compile time is never going to be longer than ten to fifteen seconds.
 
   Graphics design, same thing -- no major CPU/GPU requirements;  maybe find an ultrabook with 16GB of memory; or one with at least a 60% RGB accuracy rating -- honestly, between 60 and 100% you wont tell the difference unless the printjob is professional grade.  For schooling, it's not needed.
 
   Re travel, office, chrome; again -- its about as light as long a battery life as you can get, and then some memory to handle tabs in a browser.
 
   I see no need in any of the red font requirements for a dedicated GPU card; and the impact to battery life of adding one is going to be substantial enough to possibly have a laptop routinely die before you are home from classes on a daily basis.  And yes, while some lecture halls have a spare wall plug here and there, but you'll never be early enough to snag them all the time.
 
save your money; get a laptop that functions for the needs of your college program, and perhaps a console with substantial savings left over.

The lenovo by far, even though it has the low power c[u and the weaker gpu, it has better specs all around and the cpu is technically stronger.

The gpu is better in the first one but you get a better screen,cpu and more ram in the second so I would go with the Y40

Can I just take a moment to appreciate how efficient this post is. Lists specs, resolution, and doesn't bother with silly things like sentence structure or correct  adjectives. Hell, I've spent longer writing this response at this point than you did writing the post! Should run fine though even a potato can probably run CS:GO @ that res/settings. Just don't expect this performance to translate to other FPS like BF4 because those games are a lot heavier on graphics.

Best laptop for normal web usage, office usage, Premiere, Photoshop, InDesign and CS:GO.

This happened to me quit a few times. I contacted the admins of each forum and told them about the issue, and some of them unbanned the IP, others said...well, they said tough. You can try to contact the admin/s of the forum and see if they will fix the issue for you.

Unless your IP range changes when you change your IP, there's not much you can do past contacting the admins of the specific forums asking them to allow account creation (if they'll even let you). Or you could just use a proxy

Probably IPs in your IP range were marked as spam bot addresses and such and the asshats blacklisted the entire range

I'm looking for a laptop within the ~600 USD range. Most of the GOOD laptops in this price range have i5-5200U's, GT 940M's, and 4 GB's of RAM, at least in my country.
 
What brand should I go for? What brand should I avoid when it comes to budget-oriented products?

As I said, PC is just for basic work and CS:GO. I'm in 9th grade so... please.

Will be upgrading to 4 GB of RAM soon.

Thing's stable now. It really was the GPU. Reduced my GPU Overclock and now it's running fine.

Settled with a used Q9550 for 30 bucks.

Well, I do see three revisions of the Q9550 there. My BIOS ver is 0415. The Q9550 needs 0216 to run, so I don't think I need to update my BIOS anymore.

Settled with a used Q9550 for 30 bucks.
