  1. Even if the European Union manages to get Apple to support RCS (special thanks to Americans whining about green/blue text bubbles and Google's silly ads), it will still appear as a green bubble in the iPhone.

  2. I do not know why would a wireless carrier control updates especially in the US. I bet for the rest of the world Android OEMs are free to push updates without carrier intervention. I guess if you're in the US and would want an Android phone, it'll probably be better to buy unlocked directly from the OEM, not from the carriers.
  3. FileVault full disk encryption is not turned on by default. What is turned on by default is encrypting file system https://support.apple.com/en-ph/guide/security/secf6276da8a/1/web/1
  4. Is this the one with Intune? https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/protect/encrypt-devices#create-and-deploy-policy
  5. You don't have to use Windows 11 Pro since for most people Windows 11 Home is good enough. 11 Pro bundles enterprise features such as Hyper-V, Defender Application Guard, GPO, Bitlocker full disk encryption, and Windows Autopilot for remote deployment of company devices to remote users. The last feature was very useful when a lot of people have to do WFH during the peak of the pandemic.

I wish it was as easy as restoring from a good backup to undo all the shit that white South African nepotism baby has done. But yeah I still call it twitter too

  8. So I'm guessing the Apple devices aren't affected because they use an in-house designed GPU?
  9. Apple was foolish to think that a puny smartwatch can compete with the likes of Rolex. No wonder when the series 1 came out they immediately cancelled the gold variant.

To be fair they sold few units. Some people were foolish enough to buy the marketing prop.

Hotpot anyone courtesy of the A17 Pro?

At least the 5x telephoto is enough for a shabu-shabu between Tim Cook and Mother nature

Unpopular Opinion: The likes of Apple and Samsu…

You can do that online or at Apple Stores already
  13. Unpopular Opinion: The likes of Apple and Samsung should stop shipping their expensive phones with the cable out of the box for a couple of reasons.

    • It's short in my opinion (at the moment I use a 2 meters long braided cable from Anker)
    • Because it's short, you'll probably throw it away or keep it piling in a cable drawer creating more e-waste.
    • If you can afford an expensive phone, you can buy a good third party cable that is long and fast.

    But that's just me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

they should offer options with and without cable. if HP can sell EliteDisplays with and without stand, i'm sure that apple can sell iPhones with and without charger/cable.

they're just selling you the charger separately, adding 20 bucks to the 'something 99' cost of the phone. putting a usb-C cable in a box doesnt cost 20 bucks.

  14. Unpopular Opinion: Apple should bring back the AirPort Extreme by integrating a mesh wifi with the Home Pod. Should they decide to bring it back I hope it has an easy way to use a VPN as simple as installing an app from the App Store.

Agree, I enjoyed the various AirPort devices I've used over the years. They aren't super advanced as far as controls go, but they're dead simple to set up, which is what most people need. Far less complicated than setting up Netgear stuff, for example.

In the meantime, look at Unifi's stuff. They're basically the Apple of networking hardware (tight ecosystem, love for white plastic and silver aluminum, simple setup process), they have their Teleport one-click VPN function that you can use from their iOS app.

  15. He's one funny motherfucker! I wish I can see live one of his shows in NY (warning: contains a lot of profanity, sexual innuendoes) This one is my favorite
  16. Stupid Question: Does Apple Care cover water damage, screen replacements, and keyboards? Asking for a friend who is buying a MacBook Air? I never bought Apple Care so I don't know. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  17. The 14+ and the 14PM actually had the same battery life despite the former using a 60Hz panel and a A15 Bionic chip on 5nm. If you watched the Phone Buff video, the 14Pro Max uses default display settings and yet it had the same battery life as the 14+. Whereas the 15+ edges out the 15PM by at least two hours. That is not what's happening in the real world. Reviews show that the 15Pro/15Pro Max not only drains battery faster, it also gets unusually hot be it when charging or just daily normal use. The 3NB process that Apple hoarded from TSMC despite low yields is not as power efficient as they want to be over the previous generation.
  18. Battery life and power efficiency is not looking good for the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max iPhone 15+ (A16 Bionic) lasts at least 2 hours longer than the 15 Pro Max (A17 Pro) Both the 15 Pro/Pro Max with the aforementioned chip gets unusually hot when charging
  19. A17 Pro's TDP seems to be 14W. Also the iPhone 15 Plus has way better battery life than the 15 Pro Max. Which probably means that the 60Hz 15+ is a better buy if you care about battery life compared to the 120Hz variable refresh rate A17 Pro 15 Pro Max.
  20. This feels like an America-only issue because for the rest of the world, nobody cares about green/blue text bubbles as if the ones in green are second class citizens because most of us use third-party chatting apps that are cross platform such as Whatsapp, Telegram, and Signal.
  21. I'm not a religious person but I am a history nerd especially those concerning about world religions and the emergence of their texts, be it canonical or apocryphal into the contemporary historical record.
  22. to those planning to play AC Mirage on the 15 Pro/Max. You can only play it probably around 30 minutes because the phone gets very hot at 118°F/47.8°C. This might as well be the iPhone version of the 2018 core i9 MacBook Pro thermal throttling, or maybe similar woes of the Snapdragon 810 that Samsung abandoned for the Galaxy S6/S6 Edge but who knows? Maybe it's just a software bug in iOS 17.
  23. Apparently despite the 3nm lithography used by the A17 Pro, it's worse than the A16 Bionic when it comes to power efficiency (thread). So it mean that the battery drain issue will be much worse than the 14 Pro/14 Pro Max. It seems that the A17 Pro chip uses more power to attain the measly 10% performance bump over the A16 Bionic! Time stamped it. A17 consumes more power despite the smaller transistor size compared to A16. At 10:22, the 15 Pro/Max has 3% worse battery life than the 14 Pro/14 Pro Max which may not sound a lot but give it 8 months and it maybe as bad or even worse than the 14 Pro/Pro Max. I'd like to be proven wrong but I think this batterygate 2.0 will also be seen in the upcoming M3 MacBooks. Since it consumes more power, more heat is generated so people with the 15 Pro/Max will probably see this angry iPhone temperature warning especially when charging during summer or if you live in the tropics.
  24. Also it would be interesting how fast the battery health deterioration in the iPhone 15 Pro/Max after 6-10 months. My sister and my friend both with a 14 Pro Max already had their batteries replaced after less than a year due to rapid battery health deterioration.
