Timmahnz reacted to FlyingPotato_is_taken in Nvidia RTX 40 Super Series Review
    @LMGcommunity Glad it's fixed.
3:26: -1.99% in average gaming power is red. Not only hard to read on black background but here is how I see it:
somebody did context formatting (Excel) based on if it's below zero as bigger number better. What he forgot is considering that this isn't true for every parameter as such absurdly a lower power consumption is formatted in red suggesting it's bad. Similar an increase in IDLE power is green suggesting that it's good/improvement.

At 9:49 there is the next issue with a chart:
Max. power consumption of the 4080 super is 372W. The chart is cut of at 350W and I don't see any blue going to or above this.
Same applies to most other traces.
Question: What is actually drawn in the chart and what is the claimed avg. and max calculated on?

I paid $1100 NZD for my 1080Ti as the mining boom started.. I'm likely to pay near $2000NZD for a 4070Ti Super as it's replacement. Suffice to say.. Consumers have decided that these prices are acceptable, as well as demand for their AI capabilities are dictating prices. Add that in today's economic climate and Nvidia's clever marketing, we are not going to see prices pre-covid, pre-mining or price wars for a long long time, if ever.

I don't think the AI is going to drive consumer cards at all. Mining drove shortages of consumer GPU's because people built shoddy mining rigs from whatever they could buy or steal.

AI, nearly all training is going to be done on data center GPU's, and the only "realtime" inference that's worth using consumer GPU's on are things like TTS and similar audio generative AI projects because they aren't taxing on the GPU resources to get a realtime auto generation, but you still need something like a x70/x80 part to be able to get that low latency. If you do it on a x50 or x60 product, the latency is significant.

Everyone writing their own chatbot/assistant/waifubot's can do this on a computer with 3 GPU's. Here's a use case, and bear in mind this isn't middle-of-the road use case, it's an optimal one that you'd expect real time output from, not the joke of a response time you get from Siri/Alexa:
    - x80Super/Ti series part - ASR (Audio recognition) , Whisper needs 16GB VRAM to attain usable accuracy, other options exist (eg Vosk) but they still need to run on the GPU with a large model to be useful. "lite" models to run on mobile phones are barely accurate.
    - x70 series part for TTS (8GB = 140 characters), x90 series if you want emotional configurability in realtime, since it does a zero-shot train on every sentence. There are several models ranging from radtts to VITS that produce good enough audio reproduction
    - 4090 series for an LLM (70B LLaMA 2 model requires 24GB x90 part, and the 4090 is the only card that can run it at present, 13B model can run on a 12GB GPU)

So before we get into any CV parts, we already need 3 RTX x90's (maybe two 3090's and a 4090) if you want to build a low-latency chatbot without any cloud parts, or 3 x 16GB x80's if you want to build a less flexible one.

Then if you want to get into CV, you also need:
CLIP (is what forms the basis of Dall-E Stable Diffusion, and pretty much all AI models that identify things and objects at present. (For how poor these models really are, see https://www.theverge.com/2021/3/8/22319173/openai-machine-vision-adversarial-typographic-attacka-clip-multimodal-neuron )
openCLIP exists, but I don't have any data on the requirements.

And also a way to locally fine tune those AI's with new data every day so they don't become stale and can react to news.

Then if you want a moving "AI" character, you need two additional GPU's, one x90 again for doing the movement, and one x60 for rendering it.

So we're up to 6 GPU's now. While you don't need these to be in one computer, you do need to have them on the same network, on the same rack. Which means you need at least one more computer to tie everything together.

GTX 1080Ti was 850€ when I bought it basically after launch. I paid for RTX 3080 999€. I've decided I'll never pay over 1000€ for a graphic card. And I'm gonna be damn stubborn about it. Also I follow my own rule of changing graphic card only when performance is doubled. RTX 3080 pretty much doubled performance of GTX 1080Ti. So I pulled a trigger on it. RTX 4080 is far from it so it's just gonna wait. I can play all games at max super smoothly with ray tracing at 1440p so I'm in no rush to upgrade either.

Timmahnz got a reaction from Rocketmonkey in 3 question about SYNOLOGY NAS
I have a Synology NAS at home, here is my 2 cents:

1.Synology's DSM Operating System gets a few updates a year, user accounts support 2FA, LDAP integration (never tried it) and enforcing strong passwords

2.Synology has NAS's for all markets from what I see. My old work place had two Synology NAS's for backup work.

    3. Yes, yes you can. I have the DSFile app on my iPhone that backs up photos. There is a OneNote/Ever note app called DS note that i use to store notes.
Do no expose said NAS directly to the internet, have a VPN or proxy in between . Better safe than sorry.

Hi, im Stapletn! Im new to the forum and Id like to share what happens when an Albertan redneck gets ahold of computer parts.

The setup consists of the following
    CPU: i7-4790K from the dump
    Motherboard: Asus Z97-Deluxe #dumploot
GPU: MSI 1060 6GB *at the duummmp*
PSU: Ziptied together ya 650W Corsair PSU i think from the dump too, maybe my roommates
Disk Drive: Bro its a free LG bluray drive, its mint
RAM: 32GB of DDR3, 2 sticks came from the dump and two are cheap sticks with no name in the bios
Cardboard box: From Olymel factory (yeah, like olymel bacon at the grocery store)
Hard drives: refer to pic of storage spaces (almost every drive came from the dump except the 4TB and 2TB)
WAN: shaw router on stilts because globe led bulbs have garbage range, 500/100
Switches: HP ProCurve 2810-48G and a Linksys SE3005 not in photo

    - Plex, qBittorrent, Ombi, Handbrake, Kavita
I am working on creating a automation flow for requesting content. Currently it breaks my brain and i need more whiteboards lol

Oh and a Dell PowerEdge 2950 but we dont worry about that ol' girl, shes vibin.

Anyways, does anyone know a fool proof way to find out if a drive is dying in windows? When writing to the space, i get very inconsistent speeds. Itll start flyin at 100MB/s and then it dips to 10MB/s barely. Doesnt go any higher than like 10-20MB/s, writes for .5-1 second and then 0MB/s, then it picks up. Its like its stopping to flush to disk which is weird behaviour to be having all of a sudden. Especially after ive just been moving around a bunch of files. Event Viewer doesnt say anything about any of the disks in the storage space.

it is a FB20 powered 4 speed automagic thing, but its surprisingly fun to try and throw around a turn cause its so wobbly yet stable
(have a 2015 Volvo V40 D2 now that my mom might steal it from me so i might end up dailying the forester again)
it looks something like this (not the actual car) Its my dads car so i have yet to try and throw it around the forest or a track... dont want to crash it

Good.  I don't care who develops it or for what purpose, but there are SO many excellent potential improvements that can be made to the world by having better batteries, and longer lasting phones is - great to have or not - by far the least significant tip of the iceburg
