dark-D got a reaction from James_AJ in Apple's New Mac Pro Goes On Sale Dec.19
my opinion is that you can do professional editing on it, video, audio or photography. if the OS and the programs are code optimized you would be surprised what low specs you can use, especially ram. as for external drives a professional approach is to use a nas. i wouldn't put a 4-5 drives raid array in my computer. each with it's own, i guess.

wow, the level of hatred on the thread. first i don't use apple because i use linux and i have other principles for computer usage.
second, the design is quite nice and looks minimalistic and darth vaderish, have you seen the all black components, no branding in every square inch of the boards and the lack of writing of any sorts?
the case design in computers is the same crap for years because of the stupid atx standard. have you opened a workstation from dell, hp or lenovo? they are crappy chinese cases with silver interior, green pcb, no cable management and look like from 20 years ago.
the principle of cooling is the same as the silverstone ft03 mini.
xeons are locked and can't be overclocked, so there is not a huge amount of heat to disperse. the nh-d14? have you seen the default intel cooler? how about noctua l9i. also gaming graphic cards are cooled by two 90mm fans on a two slot heatsink. not to say that workstation graphic cards are one slot with a tiny, LOUD fan on them.
if our gaming computers looked so good inside, the industry wouldn't be in collapse. i can't match 3 components on my computer.

dark-D got a reaction from flibberdipper in Why is RAM so expensive now?
maybe it could be a problem for enterprise at best. but for consumers i can find old batches of ram in stock everywhere, xmp, green pcb or revision 1. not to say about all the custom pcb and heatsink ram that are in stock. also when elpida the manufacturer that went bankrupt with 10% of the marketshare and put the ram prices on it's head, it was bought by crucial/micron. and there's samsung the largest of them all. the same thing happened with the hdds, one manufacturer was flooded and the rest couldn't handle the demand? what a joke.

fire for ram, flood for hdd, i wonder with what would they come up next.
the prices are increased artificially. it's not like there isn't any ram left in stock.

dark-D got a reaction from diiPex in Amd TrueAudio Demonstration
their stereo example is quite mono, they are using each channel, left and right, one at a time. any game audio or sound card uses both channels at the same time with different levels of volume for one or the other. i find this demo quite fake and controlled. i don't see a discrete sound card gone any time soon, because i need clear and crisp music much more than game audio. when 5.1 surround came out or 5.1 headphones they promises us the same immersive experience and at the end 2.0 speakers or headphones with no virtual sound are still the best.

dark-D got a reaction from EChondo in MSI MITX+SMALL GPU combo UNVEILED (+pics!)
i was waiting for more 17cm cards to come out and compete with the directcu mini. for itx my ocd tells me that i need a card equal to the motherboard length. an itx msi gaming board will rain on asus impact parade. the asus one has too much pcb extensions on it and too much red plastic. i hope that they don't give the gaming itx the same layout as the regular itx, the power for the cpu is in the middle of the board. asus nailed it with the 24 pin and 8 pin on the side.

dark-D got a reaction from CoffeeBlack in TTL's R9 290X Review.
i find tom's review legit and on point. it amuses me that lots of people on different forums and social media are questioning the performance of a card from a reviewer that has the card on hand versus their opinion or made up numbers in their heads.
if you watched TTL for some time you will know that when 600 series were out, TTL was one of the few that said that 680 and 7970 are on the same performance when all the people said that 7970 was on par with 670 and 7950 was on par or weaker that 660ti .so don't accuse him of being bias.
also what is this nonsense that the looks, noise, temp, power consumption and the overclock don't matter. EVERYTHING MATTERS.
if you want Linus honest opinion on the new card watch the WAN show and wait for him or slick to slip up with their real opinion, they always do.
Off-topic:
- it is clear that america has the muscle car mentality and europe has the supercar mentality even in computers.
- if i was a reviewer i would have an universal waterblock on hand and test the 290x watercooled on release.
