ScaryFatKidGT reacted to filpo in No XMP lowest CAS Latency?
should be the highest speed your ram supports
if 64 gigs is preferred then I would actually go with 6000mhz ram since its widely supported, even by amd
(btw switch your country to wherever you are when you click on the link)
This G Skill kit has decent sub timings and is 64 gigs G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-5600 CL28 Memory (F5-5600J2834F32GX2-TZ5RS) - PCPartPicker

I believe there was one from montech that got an overall passing grade.

I think making a decision depends a lot on your priorities. I'm old and slow now so I prioritize visuals over insane refresh rate, so for me, moving to a 42" LG C2 OLED has turned out to be the perfect decision. This display has been mindblowing for single player AAA titles to kick back and enjoy with in HDR.
And HDR... oh man.. I never owned a display capable of true HDR but now? Total convert. Windows 11 handles it incredibly well and I never turn it off. Built in Windows HDR calibration tool and you're good to go.
120Hz plenty for me, even for the times I decide to play more fast paced FPS titles (loving a little bit of BF2042 at the moment).
I recently swapped out the 3090 for a 4090 and this.. I mean this is perfection. Nearly all titles locked at 120fps and half the time the card is pulling less than 300W while my old 3090 was struggling and pulling 400W.

I'm not replying to everyone but yeah
Get a LG OLED C2... It doesn't have the EVO panel like the 50" and up ones but I think it's the best 40"ish thing option.

Just don't leave a static image up on the screen all day and turn on "Burn in reduction" on your Xbox

Keep your screen. Its still no joke near top end.
You bought a GREAT monitor and the nice things about screens is they tend to not age quickly.
As for oled well it still burns in so not recommended.
Hdr in windows is also still a pain of having to turn it off and on all the time.
So really id just stick with your great screen you already have

Monitors costing 300 bucks today are generally better than anything i ever dreamed of from 1985 to at least 2001.
2002 or there abouts lots of decent monitors but too many dead pixels and the diversity of panel types was limited.
first flat screens were generally 256 shades of grey TFT,
Today the tech has improved so much and great panels can be had at affordable prices but once past that barrier of say 600 bucks the return on your investment is getting smaller.
Using 27" screen size 1440p for example what you have is already an excellent screen in relation to anything better is just pushing up the price even further for very small improvements.

ScaryFatKidGT reacted to bimmerman in who would need 3950x over 3900x? realistically
3950X is most likely my next CPU, unless AMD shocks us with a TR3 announcement before years' end.
I've been on X58 for 9 years now. It's time for a meaningful CPU and platform upgrade, one that will last another 7-9 years with only changing GPUs.

Kind of like that bulk pack of hamburger buns you bought at coscto to save $5.....except half of them went moldy because they didn't get eaten.

ScaryFatKidGT got a reaction from Turtle Rig in Ryzen 3800x/3900x pushed to the max benchmarks?
I guess I'm just talking regular water cooling, it seems like OCing isn't worth it as even 4.4 all core is rare, I don't think they will ever achieve 4.6 all core without exotic cooling. I am just wondering what they will do with the infinity fabric and memory pushed to the max while letting BPO and AOC do their thing on decent cooling.

ScaryFatKidGT reacted to Mister Woof in Why is i7-8700k so popular in this forum?
For anyone who was presently on an i7-2600k or better, there was no real justifiable gain in upgrading to ivy bridge, haswell, skylake, or kabylake.
The Coffeelake i7 was a real actual step forward so it was natural for people to finally consider upgrading their 5+ year old systems.

ScaryFatKidGT reacted to Jurrunio in 6800k wont take an OC anymore
Coffee Lake is the same as Coffee Lake Refresh I think. Basin falls is Skylake-X (7000) while basin falls refresh is Skylake-X refresh (9000)
Ryzen's still a bit about pricing and core count, but they are close enough that I'm willing to ignore the minor single thread disadvantage to Intel and give Ryzen praise for the rest of them. On the good side of the next to non-existent overclocking headroom, there's no need to get a cooler better than what's in the box.
-
ScaryFatKidGT reacted to Jurrunio in 6800k wont take an OC anymore
Yeah Intel broke it with microcode updates.
-
ScaryFatKidGT reacted to Princess Luna in 6800k wont take an OC anymore
That is normal, Intel was forced to roll out microcode security patch to all of Broadwell-E that locks the multiplier or in other words disables overclocking.
-
ScaryFatKidGT reacted to Jurrunio in 6800k wont take an OC anymore
You can run older BIOS updates that carry older microcodes, but then you have to use older OS (not Windows 10 1903 for sure) because otherwise they tend to crash randomly, and you still dont get any overclocking.
They wont tell us what went wrong under the hood, but neither Skylake nor Skylake-X nor Haswell-e suffer from the same problem

And nobody is suing them? like WTF?
Does Skylake-X and Skylake-X refresh have these issues? Do they still have a performance hit from before this... I don't remember when this stuff went down, was Skylake-X refresh after these issues, so not effected by them?
