So... I got bored and had a couple extra parts lying around. Seeing all the new trends of big glass side windows and UV coming back on the market a little bit I started getting flashbacks to the days of big acrylic boxes filled with UV cathodes. So that’s where I started.

For the system I started with a 303 from Inwin. I thought it was an interesting layout and I’ve been digging cases that have been trying new ways to hide power supplies. Plus for the size there’s a good amount of cooling potential without making it look like too much of a cluster.

    For parts:
    - 5960x
    - Asus X99 Deluxe
    - AMD R9 fury X
    - 16GB CORSAIR Dominator Platinum ddr4
    - Power supply is tbd
    - storage- 3 500gb ssds of varying brands
    - Cable mod rgb/UV led kit

    Cooling:
    - EKWB Supremacy csq full nickel cpu block
    - EKWB Fury X block acetal / backplate
    - EKWB 140 D5 revo pump/res combo
    - EKWB PE 360 radiator
    - EKWB XE 360 radiator
    - lots of random nickel fittings from ek
    - Vardar f3 fans throughout except the CORSAIR af120 in the back of the case
    - Primochill lrt tubing 3/8 x 5/8
    - Primochill bright UV orange anti-kink coils
    - Primochill UV electric blue coolant with some intensifier in it.

The power supply is tbd due to the ax860i that I bought for this causing some huge instability issues and random crashes/boot loops. It’s currently running a nearly 10 year old pc power and cooling silencer I borrowed from my old x58 build that’s still going strong. (Kudos pc power and cooling) That will probably get switched out this weekend when I get a chance to go exchange it.

Anyway here she is in close to her final form.

The best thing you can do if you're concerned with size is try to find somewhere that has some display models or buy a couple with a good return policy. I know some people with small hands that love larger mice. Personally I use a few different styles of mice and it does't really affect me. The Zowie fk1, which for the most part is my daily driver, feels pretty small to me. The G303 is also on the smaller side. They're both great mice.

Hmmm. Everything looks like it's running like it should. That is pretty confusing. Overwatch should be pushing 100-120fps on ultra on that setup. I can't speak as much for minecraft. I've run a 6300 with a gtx 970 and that's about what we were getting with Overwatch with no stuttering like that. It has to be something in the OS or a pci-e lane jumping to gen 1 or something random like that.

Good catch. That's what I get for trying to read on a phone. With 4K don't get me wrong you'll still see a bottleneck in some titles but it won't be near as noticeable and in most it's going to shift back to a GPU bottleneck.

for 4K get a GTX 1080 and overclock the CPU to 4ghz+ and it will be perfectly fine...no bottleneck.

Prolly_dyin got a reaction from GoldSolitude in CPU Upgrade
Honestly the best thing you could do is add more Memory. Unless you're really looking to build a new rig. DDR3 isn't necessarily "outdated" it's being replaced but as far as performance is concerned as long as you have some decently fast ddr3 you're not going to see much of a difference going from ddr3 to ddr4. If you're trying to be competitive in CS you're probably not running all of your settings maxed out and in turn probably not running into cpu bottlenecks while recording gameplay at decent settings.  You're also probably not going to see huge gains going to m.2 over a decent sata SSD for that type of workload.

If it were me I'd stick with your current setup, get 8 or even 16gb of memory and throw a decent ssd in.

I'm with the majority on this one. The Sandy Bridge is still a very capable platform if you're using it for everyday use and gaming. Grab a new gpu and a 240gb or 500gb SSD to use for boot and to keep frequently used applications then a nice air cooler like the NH-D15 or one of the 140mm aios and push a decent overclock. From there if you're not happy with the performance you're seeing you have a couple new parts to throw in your new rig.

Honestly, I've been messing around with an old X58 system the last few days running an i7-920 and W3520 at 4.2Ghz under water with a gtx 970 and in about 75% of the games I've bench marked there is maybe a 1-5% difference in framerate compared to my X99 rig running a 5930k at 4.4Ghz.

But depending on what you want to play and if they're more cpu or gpu intensive will be the real deciding factor. For example in Battlefront the X99 system averaged 93.5 fps while the x58 system averaged 94.5 fps. Then on the other side Fallout 4 averaged 99 fps on the X99 and 72 fps on the x58
That being said Fallout 4 is definitely in the minority. I also ran BF4, Crysis 3, Metro LL, and a few others which were all within 1-5% performance difference which I couldn't justify building a new rig around.

I hope all this rambling helped. Good luck with your decision.
    Cheers

Gaming on a Model M probably won't go too well. The max rollover of a Model M is something like 2-4 simultaneous key presses.

For example, if you're jumping (spacebar), crouching (ctrl), moving diagonally (w, a) and trying to reload (e), something's going to give. More than likely something will give before that, because you won't stop completely depressing a key before you start pressing another one.

Won't be a problem for all games, but it'll stop ya more often than you think.

So I just finished throwing a few of the last major parts on my gaming build so I figured it was time to show it. That being said it probably will be an ongoing project with some mods already slated.

The build started off as a basic Z87 i5 4690k with a gtx 970 ect. From there things got out of control which tends to happen when I do a personal build. After building this I realized that it wasn't quite up to the streaming/ capture and editing I wanted it to do. So I decided to go ahead and jump at an X99 platform. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade for me. Plus it gave me a nice z87 platform for a home server/nas.

    Current specs:
Mobo: Asus X99 Rampage U3.1 Extreme
    CPU: intel 5820k (4.4Ghz)
Cooling: EK predator 240 rad/pump/res, Supremacy Evo nickel, Primochill revolver fittings and acrylic Hard piped aio?
    Memory: 16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 2800 (running 2600mhz 15-15-15-32)
GPU: SLI Evga Gtx 970 SC
    Storage: 4x Intel 535 240gb ssds in Raid 0, 2x Pny 240gb Xlr8 drives
    Case: Corsair Air 540 Fans- 3x SP120 1xAF140
    PSU: Evga 850G2

The loop is definitely something kind of odd in this. I really wanted a very simple looking loop. Using the 240 predator with a few fittings and tubing (I had the evo so I threw it in) I had a very simple looking hardlined loop that looks pretty dang good in my personal opinion. Let alone I can actually remove the whole loop (very carefully) without taking anything apart. Win. The other odd thing is the drives which basically I just got a good deal on all the 240gb drives (around 50 bucks each I believe). As for the raid 0: I don't do a whole lot of critical work that isn't thrown onto another backup server almost instantly anyway so I'm not too worried about lost data. The most I'd typically lose is a draft of an invoice, ect. that can be easily duplicated.

    So for the future:

As much as I didn't want to really I think I'm going to end up combing the cables. They're just out of control. I'm also planning on making a basement to cover the drives and sleds, cables, ect. at the bottom of the case. Even though watercooling the 970s was an Idea at one point (why the tube coming from the pump is oddly shaped to make room for another 240mm rad) I think due to funds and me being a poor guy, I'll probably just turn the blue decals on the gpus red or silver.

    Anyway here it is:

I'll try to get a few shots of my complete setup and things as I get them completed.
Hope you like it! It's been a fun project so far. Aside from cable sleeving, who really likes doing that?

    [UPDATE 8-1-2016]

Since the completion of the build I added a very basic radbox from 2 240's I had lying around from previous iterations, a Phobya radiator stand, 3 meters of EKWB ZMT and 2 quick disconnect fittings from Koolance, well 4 pieces.. you need a male and female to make 1... kinda like babies!  The ZMT tubing is really nice... surprised how much I like it.
Because I had to replace a defective power button which required an almost complete disassembly of the build I'd might as well do some loop mainetenance - I had some sort of platic strings in my res due to me forgetting to clean the ZMT before using it. Even if it clearly say so on the box! Lesson learned - don't rush WC builds. Remember that kids. And when you have the loop apart.. well you might as well fix things you weren't a 100% satisfied with. In my case it meant redoing some of the runs which would also reverse my flow - only and added benefit as it made draining the loop alot easier. Of course adding two quick disconnects to the loop also added additional drain ports.
I digress.. (Jay!) Prior to the revamp the flow was Res->Pump->Rad->GPUs->Radbox->CPU->Rad->Res-Pump. Now it is Res->Pump->Rad->CPU->Radbox->GPUs->Rad->Res->Pump.

I also performed Benji's thumbscrew mod ( @Benji_w ) on my pump to easier control the pump speed. I'm so glad I stumbled across that post. It makes bleeding the system so much easier. and Now to the fun part! The Pics

First the old build. Sorry for the very crappy quality. I had to download and crop the only picture I had of the "first radbox runs"

And the new runs. I'm very happy with the new look. Much cleaner in my opinion. But judge for yourself

And a few of the radbox. Its not pretty.. but it is out of sight.

Think this will be the last iteration of Monochromatico but you never know.

In the midst of re-doing the color scheme of MonoChromatico. For some reason I found the last build to come out a bit messy - even if the runs were minimal...

Unfortunately I will not have the same amount of time as last time around so the updates will not be as often and detailed as I would like.

    EDIT:

Think I'll better give some more insights on what is going to happen during the build and the specs.

Shoot me a pm or reply if you want the specifics for any of the watercooling stuff.

This time around I'm going for a more stealth all black build with a bit of bling from the chrome copper tubing and fittings. At first I was looking for clear teint hardline tubing but nobody seems to be doing this... Someone make this.... pretty sure it will be a sure sell to anyone planning a stealth themed build In my search I stumbled upon the chrome tubes from Dark Side and the rest is history.

There's been a small amount of modding done to the case - my first ever dremel cut as I had to make room in the back for the Aquaero 5 LT. A somewhat nerve wrecking experience but it turned out pretty good. Wouldn't have hurt to clean the cuts up a bit better but I didn't really have the proper tools for it.

In order to achieve a more silent running PC I've decidded to delid the CPU this time around as it gets really hot when putting 1.3V through it... well in that ball park anyways.. can't remember the number. I may have it a bit lower than that. I should hopefully be able to run the fans at lower speeds while under load than before.

So far this is what I've been doing:
Painted the Gryphon Armor Mat Black as it was white in the previous version of MonoChromatico Removed all blocks and replaced them with new black ones as shown on the pictures Delidded the CPU with the D8auer Delid die Mate - was very easy and felt a lot safer to user then taking a piece of wood and a hammer to a wice strapped CPU. Hope it will be compatible with Kaby Lake but I wouldn't count on it Taken the SLI bridge apart and tunred it around so that the ROG logo will not be upside down anymore as the layout is inverted. Screw wholes in the PCB and the cover doesn't line up but super clue ftw... Flushed the 2 new rads. Removing actual radiator paint is not something I even wanted to try... SO not going to be reusing the old rads;) All blocks has also been flushe Cut the copper tubing to size

Thinks that's about it for now.

But here's a couple of teasers.

You'll just need 4 fittings and some petg or acrylic. I will note that It is a pain to get refilled with the stock res. took me a good while to get it filled. As far as expanding you could probably throw in a gpu block and another 240 rad with the stock Laing DDC.

However, that is the one benefit of them being a huge company, You can often(in the us anyway) find them on sale for even up to half off or more of the shelf tag prices. I do own 2 blackwidow ultimates (a 2013 and 2014 version both bought for around $50) Still using both at work and don't regret a thing purchasing them at that price. I also have a deathadder 3g and chroma I also use at my office.(chroma I grabbed for like 35 bucks?) both working still. I've had to clean the sensor on the 3G a couple times but the things pretty old since I bought it fairly close to release.

To be honest as far as mice go my k/d doesn't change switching from my Fk1 to a deathadder, G502, Sensei, or my old mx518 for that matter. For some people it may, I don't know?
The Blackwidow ulti. at its kind of standard sale point at 90-100 bucks does fall into what I feel is really an appropriate price range for it. For having mechanical switches, backlighting, dedicated macro keys, software, I like that it has usb and headphone/ mic pass through as well.

I'm not really a razer fanboy in the slightest. I have one of about every brand of peripheral now and am currently not using anything from razer.(except at work ofc) I'm just speaking from my personal experience with them over the past probably at least 8 years of owning different razer products.

So to sum things up from that jumbled mess I just wrote:
-They're alright products. Not the best, but alright.
-Buy something from them on sale because they have them pretty often.
-Use Razer stuff if you want.

That's about all that was important.
