Quiescent is a word. It means inactive or dormant. Them using it is pretty much akin to that kid in your 10th grade English class going on thesaurus.com and replacing random words with pretentious words they can't pronounce in an effort to make his shitty, half-plagiarized essay appear decent, though.

Moosie got a reaction from DarrenP in Looking into doing a custom loop.
It actually scales surprisingly well, at least in the games tested. Maybe those results are misleading, though. Most of the games are pretty old at this point, and probably support multi-way GPU configs particularly well.
Anyway, I don't think anyone invests that much in a gaming setup purely because it's functional. It's at least partially to be the badass with tri-fired cards.

Moosie got a reaction from Prodigydeadeye in Is it a good time for 1080p
Most of them come with a one year warranty from the seller, but it's ebay so I'll give you that. Some people get dead pixels, yeah. And some people get backlight bleed. It's usually not bad, though, and most people get monitors with no real defects. People that do get really messed up ones usually end up with a replacement. Lots of monitors have cheap stands, my Shimian's isn't even the worst I've seen, even on $200+ monitors. I mounted mine to a monitor arm and that problem went away. The bezels are large, sure. You can get them with multiple inputs, as well as audio pass through. Do people actually use the USB ports on monitors? I've actually never seen anyone do it.
But all that aside, you have to put it in the perspective that you're essentially getting the visual experience of a $500 monitor for $300. Your savings is literally 2/3 the cost of the monitor. After taxes on the name brand, you could almost buy 2 of the Korean monitors for the same price.

Moosie got a reaction from fringie in Walmart drops price of Seiki 4K TVs
Your experience is not uncommon. The majority of those TVs that leave the store come right back in. It's to the point where if someone buys one, we just kind of assume that it's going to get returned and that any commission from the sale is only theoretical.

Moosie got a reaction from Asgarth in Is it a good time for 1080p
For a major brand 1440p screen, my recommendation is always the PB278Q. It's fantastic. Period. It's ~£425.
Below that, around the £300 mark, the PB/PA248Q are both great, and 16:10. Slick has 2 PA248Qs, I believe. The only difference between the two is the factory color calibration in the PA series, I believe.

Well with the gpu savings i'm sure that won't be hard. So about the 770s, what do you think. Btw i'm new on pc, I just sold my console and i'm really worried i'm over paying for anything.

Moosie got a reaction from crazydevil in Hdmi 1.4 with Ethernet? wtf
No. It's only really useful for AV applications. Don't worry about it, just get a cheap basic cable. If you're in the US or Canada, monoprice.com is a great place to look.

Is this suggesting you have a 780 and a non-1080p+ monitor?
Scout for a Korean 1440p off eBay.

Moosie got a reaction from The Crazed Child in Would you like amd and/or nvidia to just go all out.
I don't think this is really the right argument to have. There have been and always will be cards that, to some extent, say screw it in regards to power, heat, and noise. Take the GTX 480 for example. That card is still pretty fast, and at the time it was crazy good. But it was also hot as hell (I think LMG uses one running kombuster to create extra heat in their cooling reviews), and it consumed ridiculous amounts of power for a single card.
Now we're moving more towards things like the 750 ti. It's not a very powerful card in relation to something like a 780ti or a 290x, but it's an absolute beast when it comes to performance per watt, and it generates so little heat that there's single slot versions of it. As architectures become more and more efficient, we're going to get cards with lower power draw and a lower TDP. But that also means we can push them further with the same cooling, so we're still going to get massive, hot, loud cards that are just balls to the walls.
Then you have to look at the differences in design ideologies between the green and red teams, which will effect which point they emphasize more when they're trying to strike a balance.

Moosie got a reaction from minimoose in Cool tech things to see in LA
It depends on what you mean by tech, exactly. The Griffith Observatory is pretty incredible, I could spend days there. The space shuttle Endeavor is located at the California Science Center.
As for computer related stuff:
There are tons of game studios such as Activision, Riot, Naughty Dog, Cloud Imperium, Neversoft, DICE. Down further south in Orange County, you've got Blizzard and Obsidian.
I know Cisco has offices in LA. Intel has a campus in Orange County, and so does WD.
However, I'm not sure if any of these places give tours or anything like that.

Moosie got a reaction from Burninator in Looking to upgrade GPU, need advice on power usage
This is wrong. The rated requirements have built in padding for various reasons. Let's look at some real world testing. According to Tom's Hardware's testing, the 780's peak power draw was 208W. AnandTech measured the stock 4770k's load power consumption at 113.2W.
Even if I give the 780 Nvidia's rated 250W, and round that 4770 to an even 115W, that's only 365W, which is equal to 30.42 amps over the 12v rail.
30.42 < 38. Unless they plan on overclocking, it's a non-issue.

since Zotac market them as HTPCs

That's true. Smoke has microscopic particles. I didn't think of that.
I like it, but that forces me to use a microATX motherboard.
Thanks guys, I think I'm just going to get a Source 210, spend a little bit on fans for super postive airflow, and tell him not to smoke around his f*cking computer.

Hello everyone, experienced a bit of issues with my PC yesterday. Going to have to say I'm not torrenting anything again, and being 100% more careful then I was before about installing programs. Pretty irresponsible of me as an educated member of the PC community kind of embarrassing to be honest.
Just thought I'd give a shout out to these people for helping me.
@Norwegiantweaker @mvitkun @SAV1OUR @JAKEBAB @Moosie @Createinator @TDP_Equinox @ManIkWeet @JigglyPufflez @WestcoastPCBuilder Special thanks to Equinox and Moosie for the effort they went through. For those who are curious, I basically went through and deleted all my partitions, reinstalled windows, brought drivers from my fathers work pc, and am now running ninite to install my basic programs as well as drivers then creating a restore point and setting up MSE to do a nightly scan and will be running MWB at least once a week. -

They're high quality fans, for sure. They're quite loud at 100%, but have the airflow to back it up. Good static pressure, too. You definitely want them controlled, though. They're basically the higher RPM version of the Apache Blacks that a lot of people like.
The other ones that come to mind are Silenx Effizios. They're not as quality or as powerful as the Akasas, but they're quiet and they're cheap.
