Value Case w/ Dust Filters

Hey guys,

I'm putting together a build for a friend who's finally decided to join the PC master race.

I'm pretty set on parts, except for one problem: both he and his ladyfriend smoke in the house (not constantly, but enough that their entire house smells strongly of smoke). It's kind of gross, but whatever. The challenge that presents, of course, is dust. I want a case with dust filters so that he won't have to drag his PC outside for a deep cleaning every couple weeks. However, all the cases I would normally use or recommend in the price range I'm looking at don't have them.

I have $75 left in the budget. Anyone have any ideas?

I don't know if dust filters would really help.

It definitely won't be good. But as there's positive air pressure, it shouldn't be as terrible.

They also have 3 cats (yes, this house will be a dust nightmare), so it'll help with that.

Dust filters aren't fine enough to help with smoke. Don't think the smoke will be a problem anyway. If you're still concerned about it, make sure the case has very positive airflow, that should help. Don't really know any good looking cases with dust filters at $75. I'd go for the NZXT H440 at $110 if your friend is willing to go a bit outside his budget. A H440 with positive airflow and fan filters over each intake seems like a good way to tackle this problem IMO.

That's true. Smoke has microscopic particles. I didn't think of that.

Micro-atx is good for budget builds. And that case is superior to source 210.

It's not a particularly budget build ($900), he just had some things he wanted in particular, so I worked around that. And I'm getting a decent motherboard for a pretty good price. But I can get this for only a little bit more, after rebate. So that's an option.

I was also considering getting a Core 3000. It's kind of the opposite of filtered, but it comes with 3 fans, which will definitely help with the whole super-positive air pressure thing.

What do you think, should I go 350D and the gigabyte board (which will probably be out of budget), or the core 3000 and the build I had planned?

Z97 would be better in-case he ever did want to upgrade, but if it goes over the budget, then stick with the Z87, but just so you know, the Source 210 is not really the best case to build in, there are reviews about how the screws are poorly made, and a few other things

He's probably not going to upgrade anything until well after broadwell and z97 are obsolete.

I've done multiple builds in the Source. It's not a super high-quality case, but it's good for the price. It's 20 bucks after rebate right now. :shrug:
