GeekaWhat got a reaction from mantom01 in Choosing a video editing laptop
The reasons the MAcbook's are so good is because of Final Cut, it is so well optimised for the specs of the laptop that for the price, in the form factor the Macbook may actually be the best and cheapest way to go - IF you're editing in Final Cut, if not there probably isn't much point. Honestly look at the XPS 15 or New Blade Stealth (linus did a video on it yesterday), it has a 6700HQ in so will be decent, the problem is these are going to be out your budget, but as many of us know, editing isn't a cheap business.

If you can sacrifice the 'premiere pro' bit in your question a retina, 13 inch Macbook Pro is the option - editing, as you probably know is ridiculously intensive, you may need to make a compromise somewhere.

yeh, my 700D has a flip out screen so that solves the 'I can't see whats in frame problem', plus walking around with a point and shoot can look a bit weird - a dslr sends the message of 'I don't even care' out I suppose - plus the 18mm focal length on my kit lens is fine for now - i"ll probably get a 22mm F2 at some point

also talking broadly about OTHER action cameras not just go pros

Well some have modes like superview, some have lens correction, some have none wide angle modes etc, some have software to remove the fish eye,
action cameras are not always just crazy fish eye

(not that I am saying get one)

an RX100 or canon G7 etc are great vlogging cameras but probably not in that budget, most cheapo point and shoot cameras have tiny sensors

Go Pro 4k Wide vs Superview for example

I see why he's made the move, I've looked at using vessel as a creator myself and their payouts are HUGE in comparison to YouTube. I use vessel and every day in the comments half the commenters say how they won't be renewing their vessel membership and 'rip vessel' and that kinda stuff. I imagine this is one way of linus trying to get people to hold onto vessel as I imagine it makes up a large chunk of LMG income

GeekaWhat reacted to Aereldor in Can I crossfire a 380 and a 380x?
You'd be incorrect. With AMD cards, you can crossfire any two cards that use the same GPU Microarchitecture. You can even crossfire a 280x and a 7970. Not only are the 380 and the 380x based on the same microarchitecture, but they're virtually identical. However, if you try and crossfire a 2GB 380 with a 4GB 380x, you'll still only have access to 2GB of VRAM- Crossfire (and even SLI, for that matter) can only use the VRAM amount of the lesser card, and VRAM doesn't stack.

Unlike others I am going to mention this in what I feel is a fair manor.

Since the new office move I feel LMG content has declined in quality. I understand the lack of new product releases lately is ultimately gonna lead to a lack of GREAT videos, however yesterday I watched Linus put 8 GPUs into a 32 core beast server and today 'How to Install a GPU' like come on. I know this is a scrapyard wars week and this has led to videos that have to be faster to produce but I don't feel scrapyard wars, which will probably drag on too long at the end should lead to a week in which content is imo pretty sh*t. I feel aside from the xmas pc modding, fallout build guide, server videos, 7 gamers 1 CPU and the latest holy sh*t video it has all been quite disappointing. We haven't seen a build guide in the new office, like a full tutorial - I love those - especially the ULTIMATE ones!

I would however like to say the quality of editing has drastically increased, as has filming - not to say some sexy graphics overlays from Edzel really gave LTT videos a quirky look before and I feel LTT needs more of this.

To address the exclusive Nerd Sports, I'll be honest I was initially p*ssed. However seeing @LinusTech post on the forum about it I now fully understand why and have ti say I love the idea. Exclusivity and content behind a paywall is always gonna be controversial, but providing it doesn't take away from other content (for which it seems that way this week) I fully agree with the move, and whilst I am yet to make a decision may be the sole reason i renew vessel membership!

Linus my personal viewpoint/advice on this would be not to take on too much  I love some of the latest LTT videos but others have been awful imo. I understand this time of year lacks for product releases but aside the 'show style format' more reviews would be great - because that's what you do best. From new employees that you have mentioned it seems you are facilitating for all this new content you plan to make.

Tech quickie has also been superb lately.

Finally Brandon, Edzel, Taran and John are great on camera and seeing more of them would be great.

This is all subjective I know but these are my opinions and if you were to see this I hope I have put across an unbiased argument and would love to know what everyone on the forum thinks.

I would use the onboard RAID. A proper RAID card (With the battery backup) isn't cheap / is too overkill for your use. They run in the $500-700 range as well.

RAID 10 isn't calculation heavy like RAID6, so the onboard RAID is fine.

Do note that the speed of the array will drop as you fill it up a lot (like 20% free space...It's just the nature of hard drives).

Have you considered the 4TB drives though? They still have the best GB per dollar ratio. The 4TB and capacity drives are faster. You might get slightly slower results with the 2TB ones (Not by much though...probably 5-10MB/s less).
