You know someone pulled those requirements from their ass, right? There are no official recommended requirements because the game is still in alpha. There is no way for anyone to actually give accurate requirements of a game that isn't even optimised yet. Whatever the actual final game requires to play with good quality, people will be ready for it.
That said, there are always games with settings that are very demanding at launch, that get few people can enjoy. Crysis was one of these. Metro 2033 too. Star Citizen will be as well. But that doesn't mean you won't be able to play it smoothly with a more medium range PC. You won't be at high - ultra settings. Medium - high will be just as an enjoyable experience.

colt92 got a reaction from Kommanche in How can this game be so sluggish?
It's a reward in exchange for helping fund a game that wouldn't be in development otherwise.
What I can't understand is people shitting on a game in development that they haven't even tried or even researched.

2.6 is actually the reason it surpassed Destiny in Dev funds. Id expect us to go over $160mil once 3.0 is out.

Chris started in 2011 with help from a few cryengine advisers to make sure the engine was capable, 2012 was the crowdfunder and 2013 they had a place to work.

Once they had enough money to be able to build star marine AND star citizen at the same time they decided to ask the community if they wanted a bigger scoped game or stop the funding, they asked twice and the community wanted more. AS for the terms of service, the first didn't have anything in it, the second was poorly written and the third was re-written for clarification.

It's now easier to get a refund and the only people that say it isn't are the nay-sayers.
everything he has displayed has been in game minus the 3.0 stuff and up coming 2.6, they could be out of money but they've been pulling 36-ish million a year and are only 3 million away from breaking last years record.

This source sounds like something from Derek Smart or Escapist or Something Awful has said.
    why finish it?
Because this is Chris Roberts dream, this was what he wanted with Freelancer before Microsoft fucked that up, thus why he wants no publishers.
"Would it have been better if Star Citizen took a similar roll out path?" No Star Citizen relies on hand crafted worlds, Elite relied on Procedural Generation tech a lot more than SC.

Both had good paths but doubt they would suit each others, it's also worth remembering that Elite had been worked on 4-5ish years before the kickstarter IIRC
there will probably be a free fly come January February if you can wait

It has been 'playable' since about 2013 in various different states. Started off with just walking around your hangar looking at your ships as they became available. Then we had arena commander which was dogfighting. About Christmas last year I think star citizen alpha 2.0 dropped which was the first version of the persistent universe. Not too much to do other than repeating missions and flying around but you can make your own fun!

I really enjoy alpha 2.0 right now as every Saturday 9pm bst we have a meet up with all the ltt people who play together (join us on discord if you want! Link in my signature)

Release date unknown. Alpha 3.0 which got announced at gamescom has a estimated release of late this year but their development is prone to delays. Single player is also scheduled for some release next year I think.

Name:   Operation Genesis (don't look at me, that's Spoon! ^^)

Context: There is an enemy space station in contested space. The strike force needs to destroy the occupying ships, then board and secure the station and hold it against enemy counter attacks.

    Area of operations:  Kareah

    Operational scope:

    - Ship to ship combat
    - EVA combat
    - Formation flying
    - EVA troop deployment and maneuvers
    - EVA troop extraction (optional)

    Number of participants:

The more the merrier. At least 8.

    Participant deployment structure:

The force will be divided into two main elements:

     - Team A is an EVA assault team of 4-8 people, under the command of @colt92
     - Team B is a fighter escort team of 4-8 people, commanded by @Adreyu (Dusk)

    -  @Napper198 is in overall command of both detatchments. He stays aboard the troop carrier, which serves as command ship.

    Participant equipment loadout:

     - One troop carrier/command ship  - TBD, possibly Freelancer.
     - Space superiority fighters for escort
     - Uniforms to differentiate between different elements, as well as enemies - the red, white and black-gold flight suits - usage TBD.
     - Everyone's preferred eva guns.

    Deployment:

     - Team A, as well as the mission commander will board the troop carrier.
     - Team B will escort the troop carrier to Kareah, engage and destroy any opposing ships and clear a window for team A to disembark. During this stage, Team B commander has tactical command, while the mission commander has the overall decision of when to deploy team A.
     - Once team A is deployed, they will enter and secure the station, while Team B remains in space to provide cover against incoming ships.
     - Once the station is secured, the mission commander will remain in the command ship, along with 1 or 2 team A fighters as escort under his command. The command ship and the fighters will remain outside to provide reconnaissance and engage eventual inbound threats, while letting some through to be engaged by the station defenders, at the discretion of the mission commander. The rest of team B will disembark their ships and join team A in the station.
     - The command ship may also act as a taxi to ferry and redeploy assault troops who die during the action, leaving the escorts to guard the space around the station.

    Victory conditions:

Hold Kareah for as long as possible

As it's been said on the thread, Star Citizen is not finished yet. It's in Alpha and currently has a hangar module, a flight combat module, Arena Commander, and two Universe modules, ArcCorp (social) and Port Olisar (freeroam, has PvE missions and full PvP outside the main station). Star Citizen in itself is a space sim MMORPG, and has stemmed from the original project, which was a Wing Commander successor, Squadron 42.

Right now, you're not buying a game. You're pledging. You're betting on the project, with the confidence that it'll be finished. Will it? Maybe, maybe not. But while it has received heavy criticism for it's slow progress, it's also true that playing a lot of build over a long time leaves you with a different feeling. Plus, most AAA titles take a very long time to get done. It's just that people are only able to follow the development for the last 2-3 years before release.
For now, pledges are done by buying game packages. These packages include the game, a ship, some in-game currency, a personal hangar and insurance for the ship. You can also buy additional ships, equipment and in-game currency, and upgrade your package's ship.
How does insurance work? When the game is released your package's included insurance will start to count down. For its duration, if your ship gets blown up or stolen, you'll receive another one free of charge, in its stock configuration. If that happens and you don't have insurance, you'll be without a ship. Insurance won't cost a lot so everyone should be able to afford it easily after doing a couple missions.
Will there be microtransactions? Yes. People will be able to buy in-game currency with real money after release as well, but the purchasable amounts will be limited to avoid economy destabilisation and P2W, since in-game currency will be used for everything: buying ships, insurance, equipment...

In regards to ships there is not necessarily a "better one". Every ship is suited to a role, and even within that role, each ship has strengths and weaknesses. Get a cheap one and upgrade to one that suits you. Free flight lets you try different ships, and after buying a package, you can rent ships with a special currency you earn by playing Arena Commander called REC.

Finally, if you decide to buy a package, I'd like you to use our referral code generator, so one random person from this community benefits from your pledge.

Warning: Long post. Will most definitely contain swearing

So, I ran out of HDD space and since I always wanted a more efficient way to have my storage centralized, easily accessible and some more server shenanigans I decided to finally build one. Meet Iduna:

(yes, that's the most boring case I could find. More on that later)

    Partlist:

I pulled my remaining hair while coming up with a suitable solution. On the one hand it was supposed to be cheap but on the other hand I didn't want to buy twice. So the initial 1000€ build blew up to almost 1500€ very quickly which delayed it's deployment even further.

    Parts reasoning:

Now, all parts have arrived and I was happy as a kid on Christmas and I started building right away (large pictures ahead)
And here we have the mobo assembly:

As you might already have figured out, I replaced the stock CM fan with a trusty Noctua NF-F12 to create a what I call poor mans Noctua cooler.

So, before putting it in the case It might be a good idea to post it first right?
Sure, lets just plug in the PSU real quick and check the connections a- ... the breaker tripped. What the hell? The PSU wasn't even turned on yet.
Next try, maybe it was just some random static or something. The breaker tripped again before I could even reach my desk
OK, maybe it's the UPS it's plugged into. Nope, still tripping. Motherf...
Well seems like the PSU is DOA so I pulled out an old 750W Antec. It lasted 10s before tripping again. *swearing intensifies*
Fuck this shit I'm trying a different circuit. Lo and Behold after 5 minutes that bitch is still going but giving me beeps. Eyebrow raised.
I continued with testing with an extension cable from the other circuit to see what's going on.
(It turns out later that the socket I was using was broken.)

Looking at the video output did not make me any happier as the fucker didn't post at all. Well, a BIOS update might be a good idea, maybe that fixes it. A quick Google search later told me that it didn't detect any RAM (I was using a different RAM back then, more on that later). Well, maybe a BIOS update fixes it but after some more swearing about how fucked up BIOS updates are on server boards are I was still not posting. Plugging it in every available slot didn't help as well, which didn't make me any happier because the mobo or RAM might have been damaged by a surge from earlier. At least it's a good thing that I decided to payed the premium to go with Skylake and DDR4 so I could rip out one of the Corsair Dominator modules from my gaming rig.
You don't get to see that every day.
    And... It does post. Ffffff....
Just to make sure that I grilled the ram module I plugged it into my gaming rig aaand that fucker booted as well. What the hell?!
While trying to figure out what was going on I remembered the google search from earlier where the guy was complaining about his RAM with a way older model and even @Wauthar told me on Discord something about Supermicro boards being picky about RAM so I dug a little further into it. Tuned out the RAM I originally had ordered had a 2Rx4 configuration which is not supported by all motherboards, including mine. Of course I had to realize that Friday evening so I had to wait until Thursday even if I ordered a new stick with the right configuration at that time + it was 10€ more expensive that the old one. I told myself fuck it ordered the new one and just rolled with the Dominator for the weekend.

The installation into the case was a pleasant experience for a change. The RAM was still very accessible thanks to good clearance above the the mobo and they even provided a short 8-pin extension sou you don't struggle with big air coolers. Not necessary for me since the CPU is located at the front. There were only 3 small things that didn't go as expected. The 24-pin was barely long enough to go behind the motherboard tray, the overall cable menagement space is very limited and how the fuck did WD manage to mess that up?!
Top notch screw hole alignment WD. Well done. *slow clap*

The final assembly. For now without the SSDs as at that time I was still using them in my gaming rig and just recently replaced them with 2x 480GB Sandisk to gain more space for games.

Here you can see one of the reasons I went with this case. It can hold 12 3.5" HDDs out of the box (1 5.25" to 3.5" adapter is included) and with some parts It can grow up to 21 drives. Also, noise dampening foam, 3 very silent fans and a 2 channel DC-fan controller is a nice touch. Tool-less HDD cages and the power button an the front would've made it perfect but you can't get everything.

The unRAID installation was so boring and without hiccups that I will only bother you with a picture of it's current state:

There were some shenanigans with the mobo not supporting low RPM fans which needed to be fixed with an external tool and the tool from Supermicro can only be downloaded if you have your own active directory and mail server, but that got sorted out far easier than expected or I had lowered my expectations regarding the work with the server.

Overall I'm happy now. Things work as expected and I have a crap ton of space and power to let it grow as I go on.

    Things to do:
Mess more with the VM Waiting for Crashplan sync install last HDD (which holds the 2nd copy of data right now) Install cloud server, probably Nextcloud ? Profit
Bonus internet points if you can spot the cat

As for the serious part - I am satisfied with our performance in the scenario we tried to play yesterday, it actually went more smoothly than expected.

The team leaders did their best to anticipate and deceive each other at every turn, the team members followed their commanders and performed admirably, there were some intense battles and even some casualties. Right until we all got disconnected from the server.  I suppose it is entirely possible we were disconnected because we were generating an inordinate amount of server load by suddenly shooting and jumping all over the place en masse.

For next week, we will have the scenario worked out and announced beforehand, so everyone has a chance to get acquainted with it. We will also have the engagement specifics ironed out, so the only thing we need is to get into an instance, have a short briefing and go at it.

    Good job guys!
